You Paid For College How ?

Cold Spring Harbor is gorgeous...not hating at all I wish I could afford to live there. I was using that as a contrast to my area on the south shore in Suffolk. Suffolk and Nassau are pretty different...if any places are "white bread" anymore, they are likely in Nassau: Syosset, Old Westbury, Brookville, Muttontown, Oyster Bay, Great Neck, Garden City, Roslyn, Sands Point, Manhasset, etc.

If anything it's the Nassau kids that grow up spoiled and sheltered...Suffolk is much more down to earth. It's not me living in the bubble...it's those kids out there. By the way I'm not knocking any of these towns...just calling it like I see it and the ones I just mentioned are really nice.
I work in Garden City and you don't get whiter and more people celebrating christmas than that. lol

It's insane what some of my friends who live there pay in property taxes. Freaking insane

I'm from GC... It's pretty damn white here. Most are spoiled but if you come from immigrant parents like I do, you learn to ignore how others are brought up here
You still live in GC ?

I'm looking to move out but seeing as though I work on the island I am still home for the time being. Where do you work in GC if you don't mind me asking?

 http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-08-01/boomerang-adults-recession-kids-at-home/56623746/1

The number of young adults ages 20 to 34 who lived with their parents jumped from 17% in 1980 to 24% in 2007-09 — the Great Recession— according to a detailed analysis out today.

The rise was sharpest among those under 25 — a new high of 43% vs. 32% in 1980 — but it increased largely across the board. Even among 30- to 34-year-olds, nearly one in 10 lived with parents.

After all this can some fellow poster offer Joe3 a well paying job already? :silly:

Not with that attitude! :p

Saw a guy in the gym with a tee shirt that said-How's my attitude? Call 1-800-BITE ME! Not sure if it was a medium tee shirt. :)

You guys will be glad to know I got a shirt the other day size Medium...took it home and it was way too tight so I exchanged it for a large. Hold your applause please. Nah, but seriously it does depend on the brand some run big some run small. And I don't need any of you to offer me a job...you are all in business...I'm in grad school for Psychology. I already have some good connects anyway.

Congrats on moving up a shirt size.. Is it diet time for you?.. Or are you bulking up to combat the mean streets of Long Island?

It's not like you live in the ghetto MJ! I imagine their taxes are pretty nuts, but yours probably aren't cheap either.

I'm very familiar with the area obviously..live a few minutes away. And yes, the property taxes are obscene..garden city is a bit overrated in terms of how people perceive their wealth and I'd like to think that is the main reason. Along with the fact that 3 private golf courses rest within a 1.5 mile radius(tops) which I always found to be stupid.

I was just out at a meeting right now for business ( grimaldi's at the bar. lol ) with someone who belongs to 2 out of the 3 and he lives in GC. That's just stupid but he charges it to his company for business expense

LOL. Yeah I think you might know someone who lives close to me. :)

Mine arent that bad. They still suck but not like Garden City. A close friend of mine pays close to 30k a year in GC

You have to belong to the Golf Club for the great golf course but you have to belong to the Country Club so your wife has somewhere to go. Makes perfect sense to me, a lot of families there do that or at least the generation before me did. I suppose mine does now.

Sadly true.. Gf's dad belongs to Men's Club in town which is top 100 course in U.S. and also the GCCC for wife.

My college roommate can't afford both, in addition to his east end summer weekend club, so he's just a member of the Men's Club, links before minx for sure. Great course which I've played with him a couple times. Great story, probably an urban myth, was a wife was picking up her husband after golf and a few drinks and started to feel very unwell waiting for him in the parking lot. An ambulance was called and a couch was carried out to the parking lot for her to rest.

Big fan of Novita. We had our rehearsal dinner there (my wife also had her bridal shower there while I was next door getting drunk at Water Zooi).

If I had a dollar for every time somebody told me that... I'd have around 80 bucks

Haha great story...I've heard many similar to that as well. Novita is a great spot in town, unfortunately people my age tend to still wind up at the "other" establishments like Leo's. Therefore I avoid them altogether.
