Yankees 2024/25 Offseason Hot Stove Talk

Yankees get closer Devin Williams from the Brewers for Nestor Cortes and Caleb Durbin. Real good addition to the bullpen, though this is his walk year. Opens some questions as to who is playing second/third this year, as Durbin was a possibility there.
I think the Yankees talked up Durbin, so as not to lose other guys in a trade.

I know Williams is in his walk year, but so is Nestor, and there was virtually no way he would have been back, after this year. With Williams, there's at least a chance of his return.

Third base is a big issue right now (I'm figuring that Jazz will play 2B). I literally have no idea who it will be. The big splash there might not come until the trade deadline.

First base and two outfield positions are also big issues.

I think Dominguez is going to play, and will get something similar to the Volpe treatment from two years ago. That's one outfield spot. Don't know about the second one, yet.

I keep saying "at least they have Rice as a fallback option" at first base, but the more I think about it, the more I like giving his lefty bat a chance. You can always reevaluate at the trade deadline. I really don't like any of the free agent options for first base.

Dominguez is going to put up _o_o numbers (sorry, I'm trying not to say his name again), so no worry there. 🤣

Personally not a fan of Rice at first base.

Disappointing that there are such big holes on this team. Poor planning.

I’d like to see Cody Bellinger in CF/1st, Nolan Arenado at 3rd and I’d go with DJ and Ben at 1st.

Honestly, you guys should be going for Alonso. It would kill me for him to go there and he can be an absolutely maddening hitter when he’s slumping, but God he would feast in your stadium. That right field porch would be his office.

No thanks! We do not need another high strike out, bad defender and slow running player. You are welcome to keep him along with your bad defender right fielder.

I hope we sign Alonso. I’m just saying I have no doubt he would hit 50 HRs if he played half his games in Yankee Stadium.

How about SD 1st basemen Luis Arraez? Not a power guy, but I like his Numbers--In 637 at bats he hit .314 (career .323 in 5 seasons) got 200 hits, 4 hrs, 46 RBIs, 24 walks vs. 29 Ks (career 196 vs. 194). Contact hitter to slot at 1 or 2 in the order.

Always liked him. Just what the lineup needs. He available? He's really bounced around a lot .

Latest I found on Arraez--https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/10/luis-arraez-interested-in-extension-with-padres.html

Traded for Cody Poteet. Cubs sent 5M to the Yanks along with Bellinger. Good trade. Allegedly, the Yankees told Bellinger that he will play center field, so they still need to address first and second/third, with Dominguez likely playing LF.
