Yankees 2024/25 Offseason Hot Stove Talk

Traded for Cody Poteet. Cubs sent 5M to the Yanks along with Bellinger. Good trade. Allegedly, the Yankees told Bellinger that he will play center field, so they still need to address first and second/third, with Dominguez likely playing LF.
Chisholm will play either second or third.

Yankees trade Jose Trevino to the Reds for reliever Fernando Cruz and backup catcher Alex Jackson. Cruz is a very late bloomer with swing and miss stuff (good fastball, really good splitter) who should help in the middle innings. Jackson is a depth/organizational catcher - not on the 40 man, and I wouldn't expect him on the major league roster. Looks like JC Escarra will be the backup to Wells this year.

Still need to figure out first, LF, and either second/third. Dominguez will probably play LF. I'd say that there is a fair chance that Oswald Peraza is the second baseman with Chisholm staying at third. That leaves first. There's speculation that they are looking at Paul Goldschmidt. For a one year deal plus an option, that may not be a bad way to go, and allows them to work Ben Rice in to see if he can cut it at the major league level.

Play Dominguez in center, his normal position, Cody in left. Get Nolan A for 3rd, and I'd live with DJ, Rice, etc. at first.

Goldschmidt strikes out a lot so he'd fit right in.

This is going to make the team very right-handed this year, but he is coming relatively cheap.

Never hurts to have another multiple gold glove winner at first (I'm thinking of Rizzo) and he's shown consistent pop for a long time, just not in love with all the strikeouts but good pickup overall.

I think this actually will work out pretty well. Agreed on the right handed-ness of the team, but Dominguez is a switch hitter, Bellinger is left handed, and it's not as bad as it was three years ago.

Wells, Chisholm, Bellinger, plus switch hitting Dominguez are lefties. Balanced lineup.

I should have put this in the earlier post, but I'd rather have Goldschmit for one year, than Alonso for 4 or 5.

I wanted them to kick the tires on Josh Naylor and for what the Diamondbacks got him for, I’d wish the had kicked much harder. I know his “act” could wear thin, but I would love his 27 prime year old lefty bat here than Goldschmit‘a 37 year old on the down swing bat. Either way it would be one year and projections on Naylor’s contract this year is between $12.5 - $14M. Still not mad about the move.

I been wanting Bellinger for years dreaming of him and Judge hitting back to back(especially in his early Dodger years).

Still need a someone at either 2nd or 3rd unless they are going to give Cabrera, Peraza and Vivas a chance to battle it out for it in Spring Training.

Also with them trading away Trevino and Narvaez, they need a back-up catcher as I don’t think any of the minor league journeyman they have on the roster will fit the bill.

The Martian gets his shot and if he falters, it’s Trent Grisham (yikes but if the lineup turns out to be deep, that wouldn’t be so bad).

I’ve been on record for trashing Brian Cashman’s job in constructing Yankee teams in recent years. This hot stove season, he has done a very good job. He needs to add a good fielding 3rd baseman and his work will be complete. Trade for Arenado and we are complete.

Alex Bergman would make you more completer.
