Yankees 2024/25 Offseason Hot Stove Talk

No. He is a dead pull hitter and his numbers would suffer terribly at the Stadium and it would be that way for five to six years.
Oh yeah? Well I checked the intrawebs and found this site:

and apparently you are spot on, good assessment…

Torres signs a 1 year, $15 million deal with Detroit.

At that price, the Yankees should have brought him back (I would have been OK with the $21 million qualifying offer).

I know he's frustrating, but he gives you good production for a middle infielder. I'd like to know where that is going to come from now.

Gleyber Torres hit .257 with 15 home runs, 65 walks and 136 strikeouts in 154 games for the New York Yankees in 2024.

When I heard the contract amount, I thought the same for about half an hour. Obviously his play the last couple of years has been inconsistent with his defense falling off. If that wasn’t an issue at his relatively young age, he would still be here (at least the Yankees would have offered the qualifying offer) or he would have gotten a multi-year contract from someone. Instead he signed a one year “prove it” deal the value of which is less than the qualifying offer. That is telling especially considering his age.

A change of scenery is probably what is best for him and maybe he can turn it around in Detroit and get a multi year higher than $15M per year deal next year. I wish him luck except against us but it is time to move on and probably has been for awhile.

Interesting. I thought he might be headed to the Blue Jays. Guess he's betting on himself.
The Blue Jays can't seem to get anyone to take their money. They've certainly tried.

Is the difference in the exchange rate that big? Or is it because they have to carry their own bags through customs on every road trip?

I know #2 sounds crazy, but don't discount it.

The tax rate in Canada certainly can't help matters.

Not too harsh IMO. These jerks thought they owned their space and interference with opposing players in their rights.
Saw an interview with gronk saying one of those guys was a college hockey friend of his and said he wasn’t surprised by him doing this.

Every day I read about the Yankees searching for another infielder. All the rumors come up with are retreads. Guys with mileage on them and 220 batting averages. Why? To me, they are reluctant to give in house guys a shot.

I think Cabrera should be given an extended shot at third. Supposedly he cannot hit lefties. Okay. Since they will not cut Lemaiheu because of his contract let him fill in on lefties. Since we don’t see that many lefties that essentially makes Cabrera full time.

“The two fans who grabbed Mookie Betts’ wrist and tried to rip the ball out of his hand during Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium have been banned “indefinitely” from attending any MLB games, The Post has learned.”

They just got season tickets to the ChiSox.
