Xavier, Wed. Jan. 6, 9pm, FS1 & 570 AM

That was ugly and that's what it will take to steal one or two BE wins. They'll need to turn it into a rock fight because this team is never gonna win on style points. Xavier played like crap by the way, but how much of that had to do with Chris' guys effort and environment remains to be seen. It actually sounded a little loud in the couple minutes before the T.

I had no problem with Johnson's 3 attempt. He had a good look but just missed it. If he had hit, we would have taken the lead for the first time. Crowd would have erupted and the momentum likely would have totally swung our way.

Mussini's 3 after he inbounded the ball and running off the screens was a well diagramed and executed play. The kids played hard. Unfortunately, there were some missed opportunities on shots that just didn't go in. Rebounding was excellent. There were some defensive lapses but, overall, they showed up against a highly ranked and experienced team.

Different strokes, I saw it as a terrible heave, out of the flow of the game, a poke and hope shot. Admittedly, I am not a fan of Johnson, Fun's stats aside. Not to nitpick but on Mvouika's turnover he had a red hot Mussini wide open in the corner if he reversed the ball instead of going back from where it came. In fairness he was doubled but again, I am not remotely a fan of Johnson's game.

Mvouika on Mussini: “There’s not a lot of people that can come from another country and lead a team in the Big East.” #sjubb

Xavier coach Chris Mack on #sjubb " It’s so early into Chris’ tenue but he’s gonna put his stamp on the program. I thought his kids battled"

Mack on #SJUBB: "He has transfer students, freshman. That’s difficult, but he could have won the game."

The best thing about Mullin getting warned for being out of the coaches box is I won't have to worry about seeing him sit on the scorers table in the 2nd half :)

Well you won half your bet. LOL
if he's gonna win me money on the under's he can sit on that table all he wants :)

I believe you mean covers not unders.
same thing to me. I always call it unders when I take the points. Kind of like me calling you Austor for 10 years :)

"More concerning than the loss was the status of the 6-foot-11 Sima, who entered the contest averaging 9.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocks, tied for fifth-most in the nation. Sima, along with Kassoum Yakwe, Malik Ellison and Mussini, represents the future of the program. The development of that quartet, more than wins and losses, is what Mullin has focused on in his first season."

He was very engaged on the bench post injury. Didn't seem like he was in too much pain. Hopefully not serious

No update on Yankuba Sima's left hand from Mullin. Hasn't talked to trainers yet. #sjubb Zach Braziller tweet
Tendinitis! ;) :)

Really liked the 1-2-1-1 press. Hope to see more of it in the future. Good fight, fun to watch, just not enough shot makers.

Yeah press looked good. With our lack of depth it makes it tough to sustain but it was what we needed yesterday.

Our two grad transfers shot 11/30

It was against a pretty strong defensive team that is well coached. They gave X a game till the end and got us on our feet.

Not sure what those stats have to do with your obvious point. Just pointing out the two veterans took a lot of shots & missed high %.

Ron M. seems like a great teammate. When Mussini was taking the blame for the technical causing the loss, Ron cut him off to console him and even mention his own turnover. These guys deserve a big win at some point.

i miss the game, but indications here are that we are getting better overall as a team. Development of our young guys is the most important thing we can achieve and it seems that it is happening. Our guys are competitive against tough teams lately and we are quite a bit undermanned and young. Can't wait to see what Mullin and Co. can do with a bunch more talent like Lovett, Ponds, Owens. Ahmed, Freudenberg and others added to this core. We will be competitive from the start next season. This season, I just enjoy being the spoiler and seeing the team improve slowly but surely.

Agree, next year is he beginning of the climb.
We will never be bad again, ever.
Very excited for the future.

Agree.. Next year we will have depth at all spots, our freshmen will all be sophisticated and we have significant talent coming in. Going to start opening eyes again. Very excited. Hey Tom, where u live? Salem Mass? I moved up to Portsmouth NH 2 months ago.

Few observations:
- Refs James Breeding always seems to be in the middle of some controversy, he assessed the technical.
- Nobody has commented on mullin's untucked look last night.
- Theo Rabinowitz is an animal at games. Extremely impressed with his heckling of James Reynolds. I think he got to him in the first half.

Got it. I appreciate the effort both guys put into the game. This game was a blow out early without them. Obviously, this team is overmatched.

Good for you.
You'll love it.
Glad you didn't go to North Carolina.
We'll have to hook up for a game next season.

Breeding is the F'in worst. When I got in the building and saw the three zebras I knew there could be a problem.

Yeah me too Tom. In he end, I couldn't just go down to NC because it was cheap and warm. Portsmouth is beautiful, historic, right by the ocean. Night and day difference from NC but I love it.
