Mullin says he doesn’t know anything about Sima’s injury. #sjubb
@Rumblesbn

One takeaway from the game:

The rumblings about going 0-18 can stop. We won't go 0-18, too much fight in our guys.

Love the heart of our guys. I know it's a trial period, and I hate to say it but with a little coaching and discipline we pull this game out tonight. What was with the play we ran after our last time out right there? And Mussini cannot do what he just did, not acceptable. Chris needs a true X's and O's guru on his bench.

As opposed to the out of bounds play a minute earlier that got Mussini a wide open 3 off the double screen? Please with the coaching; a horrible heave from Johnson when we had the ball looking for the lead, Mussini's T, and a very weak turnover from Mvouika did us in. Players making or not making plays win or lose games.

The best thing about Mullin getting warned for being out of the coaches box is I won't have to worry about seeing him sit on the scorers table in the 2nd half :)

Well you won half your bet. LOL

Spot on. Johnson is supposed to be a savvy fifth year player, who will play smart especially down the stretch. Sorry, that heave said it all. Young SJU kids will learn little from him I suspect.

During the Lavin era we had the very talented teams who played down to their competition all the time. Now we have a team with very minimal talent playing up and putting up good and solid fights against top 10 opponents. Now, imagine when this staff gets some players.

Unrelated to the game but there were more Xavier fans there today than any other opposing team we've played in Queens in years. Not a lot by any means but a few of them scattered about.

enjoyable game down the stretch despite horrid shooting.27% at some point. Had number 10 Xavier worried and that has got to make you happy.

"More concerning than the loss was the status of the 6-foot-11 Sima, who entered the contest averaging 9.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocks, tied for fifth-most in the nation. Sima, along with Kassoum Yakwe, Malik Ellison and Mussini, represents the future of the program. The development of that quartet, more than wins and losses, is what Mullin has focused on in his first season."

He was very engaged on the bench post injury. Didn't seem like he was in too much pain. Hopefully not serious

And considering the team was without Sima for the entire second half ... Hey, we all readily dismiss "moral victories," but in this case -- coming shorthanded against the #10 team in the country -- I'll take it.

No update on Yankuba Sima's left hand from Mullin. Hasn't talked to trainers yet. #sjubb Zach Braziller tweet

Chris Mack on #SJUBB: "He has transfer students, freshman. That’s difficult, but he could have won the game."

That's probably it. Man they had me line, hook and sinker there for a minute. Tough bunch, though and Mussini was huge down the stretch. Losing Sima, unfortunately, was probably the biggest difference because we were manhandled on the boards and in the paint at the end. If the basketball Gods have even a modicum of love for us, Sima is back soon.

The basketball gods do love us - they gave us Mullin & Co.

I had no problem with Johnson's 3 attempt. He had a good look but just missed it. If he had hit, we would have taken the lead for the first time. Crowd would have erupted and the momentum likely would have totally swung our way.

Mussini's 3 after he inbounded the ball and running off the screens was a well diagramed and executed play. The kids played hard. Unfortunately, there were some missed opportunities on shots that just didn't go in. Rebounding was excellent. There were some defensive lapses but, overall, they showed up against a highly ranked and experienced team.
