Xavier, Wed., Dec. 20, 7p, FS1

Every time I get mad at Ledlum for clunking a jumper or getting stuffed on a drive, he dives for a loose ball or fights hard for a rebound. He is finding it tougher to score against the length and athleticism of the high major forwards and centers, but he gives maximum effort and takes a lot of bumps along the way.
He has his issues but he's really growing on me. He's part of any real success we might have.

Once Pitino said in the huddle that they have to dive for loose balls it seemed like every one of them was diving for them What a difference from the previous years. These guys pay attention to everything Pitino says.

I want to buy in to what you’re saying SJUWillRockNYC. I would be much more amenable to your position if UConn didn’t just get blown out by Seton Hall. I agree , just play loose and follow Pitino’s game plan. I just think we’re walking into a buzz saw on Saturday. Hope I’m wrong!!
Hey, our guys shouldn't give a rats ass if UConn is pissed about tonights blowout. They're the defending champs, so we gotta come hard and with the same damn intensity that they will come at us with. Gotta go "blow for blow" with the champs.

I want Hurley really freaking miserable after starting the season at 0-2 on Saturday night.
Lets ball Fella's

It's always great that yukon loses on the day we win.

It's even better if we beat them.

Let's go Johnny!

We took good shots all night which is what you ask for. Apart from a few chucks from the usuals, we played good sound offense tonight. Don’t get caught too much on the numbers behind it. We were playing smart basketball
We played well so not complaining overall, just saying that taking 29 mid range shots per game is not going to lead many wins in this conference. Made 2 more shots at the rim in 11 fewer attempts. This team needs to attack more

Interesting we got 47 points from guys from high majors and 34 from mid major players.

Really solid effort tonight. Turnover, blocks, and steals differential huge.

Alleyne was star of the game, no question. He defended, he scored, we were better with him in the game.

Xavier strategy was ABS - anybody but Soriano to beat them. Soriano had a bad first half, and a solid 2nd, with 3 straight dunks to close out his scoring. He was so pumped after the third that with a big lead he pounded the basket support instead of getting back on D. Sure he will hear from Rick on that but it was a Hercules unchained moment.

Bench shortened considerably. Drissa played well. Dingle too off the bench. Wilcher made a cameo, Brady sat, and Zuby provided Joel with a breather or two.

Taylor and Ledlum were solid. Jenkins too. Some really great passing. Some really horrid free throw shooting.

We ground it out. Xavier was horrid from 3.

Last year Sean Miller coached circles around CMA albeit with a much better team. Tonight we ran circles around Xavier, albeit with our much better coach.

Onward. 1-0, top of the Big East. Playing with house money on UCONN's turf. Not really but kind of. We beat them saturday and we are sitting pretty. Hurley will tell his guys to watch out. Pitino will tell our guys we can beat them.

Hey maybe we can be in the Sweet 64. Lol, I said it.

Not a hater at all, but he’s not playing in a perfect world.

He’s doing all you can ask right now. I loved the entry passes tonight.
I paid extra attention to Jenkins tonight since Marillac has been posting about his play so much. There is still room for growth with him looking to set up Dingle, in particular, when he's in the game. Twice in three first half trips Jenkins came off a Soriano pick into the key/foul line area, drew a defender and had Dingle open for a wide open 3. That's exactly the scenario we want Dingle shooting. No doubt the staff sees this, of course, and probably addresses it during practice and film sessions.

All that said, I do think Jenkins is "reigning it in" a bit more compared to prior games. He took less shots than Soriano, Ledlum, Dingle, and Alleyne tonight. He had 5 assists to 2 turnovers. As fans I think we are going to have to live with the one or two crazy inexplicable passes a game, which is fine, just like we will have to live with one or two crazy, inexplicable shots. But as long as he minimizes that it's all good.

The boys clearly were well prepared for X and digested the scouting report, it seemed. Early, for example, Ledlum was playing way off the young Euro kid that X starts at the 4. He made 1 three but otherwise was 1 for 7. The kid is shooting below 30% from three point range and we were going to let him bomb away until he gave us a reason to adjust.
