Xavier game

Anyone watching this seton hall/ Providence game? Fun stuff right here

Yes Prov blew it.. 2nd overtime 2 turnovers I think within last few sec I .could not say if we could beat either team

PG IV is not the problem. The issue is how he is being used.

As a SG/SF, he is a very useful player who should be getting between 15-20 minutes a game. If you pair him with RySheed and D'lo, you have a pretty solid three guard lineup out there. That being said, he is an awful point. Considering the fact that this is his 3rd year in an SJU uniform, I don't know how Lavin can realistically put PG out there and keep Branch on the bench.

I have never thought that selfishness was Sampsons issue. He does, however, have a serious case of butter fingers. I find Harrison to be our most selfish player.

Yeah clearly Jakarr the Black Hole of basketball with a whopping 9 assists and when he has the ball dribbling down the court or gets it with space between him and his man is not our most selfish player. It has to be Harrison. Did Harrison run over your dog or something?

Sometimes I wonder if people watch a different game.

In what was really a lousy game that we could have won with a better game plan, I saw a beacon of hope and believe that we still can improve. Rysheed Jordan is fantastic at attacking the rim. It is a real shame that he has not been able to log more minutes. I think he will soon be able to start to increase his assist numbers along with his drives. if he can do this, I think we have a chance of improving and possibly stealing the Big East Tournament.

P.S. - Branch should always be on the court when Jordan isn't.

Agree.

Just spoke with a fellow fan, and we both said Jordan or Branch should always be on the floor running the point.

The only way Greene should run point, if Jordan AND Branch both has 4 fouls. Even then, he should only run it for a couple a minutes before putting one of 'em back in.

I feel like e-mailing Steve Lavin and telling him.

Brutal coaching job today and this is coming from one of Lavin's biggest supporters

WTF???????????

My problem with Lavin is he is clueless as to what lineup to put in.

Balamou shouldn't have been activated
Hooper should play more
Greene should NEVER be running the offense
Pointer should not play as much as he does

I disagree on Hooper playing more. He's NOT big east caliber player and a liability on defense. I don't like the fact that we play with 10 men rotation. Cut it down to 7-8 max!
And don't get me started on activating Felix

I feel he should be given a chance, where we draw some plays up for him when he gets in, and if he makes his threes you keep him in the game. If not he shouldn't play that much.

NYCShowtime.....I am with you. As Moose will tell you, I don't miss a chance to discuss DLO's lousy shot selection.

Also, I do remember the half court offense under Dunlap. Lavin either does not want that or cannot coach it. It sure does hurt us when we face well coached squads (Syracuse, Marqutte, etc.).

One more knock against DLo before i go. Did anyone see him blow the switch on two high pick and rolls, both leading to easy lay-ups?

I bet you really enjoyed the last 7 games of last year when Harrison was gone. Being among the bottom 30 teams of over 340 D1 teams in offense sure was fun :)

Enough with the Harrison bashing. He is a pretty good player whom without we would be a really bad team. He is trying really hard to play within the flow of the game but has to be frustrated by the lack of fundementals of many of his teammates.

The thing I don't worry about Harrison and bad shots is who is exactly making easy shots on our team ? We had what 12 assists today ?

Maybe a couple of times a game I might scratch my head at a shot he might take but it's not like someone else is going to get a better shot and make it.

There have been games this year I have really liked our passing and it opening up shots for a lot of guys. The last 2 games I haven't felt that way

I was amused at the criticism of Jakkar with 9 assists. I remember in 1986, yes the year we won the BE tourney against SU, Walter "the Truth" Berry got an assist, his first of the year,I think, and much of the Garden stood and applauded. He was somthin'.
Re: This team as a "work in progress". Enough! The pyramids were a " work in progress". The JV portion of the schedule is over. It's time to put up or shut up with all the individual talent these young men have, and produce a result.
It's also time for us to stop experimenting. Commit to 6 guys and play the game.
Even in a loss however, they are fun to watch. They have remarkable individual skills in a game that highlights individual skills.

Do you watch games?
Karr gets the ball in a half court and shoots or on a break never gives it up or waits to long. Crack out the VHS tape and watch him.
Oh and it's 2014. Not 1986. The game of basketball has changed a little bit.

You thought that game was fun to watch?

Missed opportunity today. This game was there for the taking. It would have been a nice road win and start to the conference schedule. Instead we are looking at 2 more tough games and a possible 0-3 BE start if we keep playing like this.

As everyone mentioned the substitution patterns are mind boggling. I would have liked to see how big a lead we could have built had Jordon started. We took too many bad, rushed shots.

It's definitely time to set a rotation and stick to it. Even more important is to have the right combination of players on the court at all times. Pointer and Opekpa are two of our best players and should be starting with Jordan, Harrison and Sampson. That gives us good balance of offense and defense. Playing Opekpa and Gift together makes little sense. Having both of them and Pointer or Balamou on the court together is crazy.

I agree that we need more Branch and Phil needs to play the 2 guard exclusively. Bring Greene off bench for Harrison and/or Pointer. Bring Sanchez off the bench for Sampson and/or Opekpa. Keep 3 guys who can score on the court at all times.

Stick to the core 8 man rotation. If we are playing a big team, sub in Gift for Pointer. If we are getting zoned and need outside shooting sub in Hooper. Otherwise stick to the 8 core guys with Greene, Branch and Sanchez off bench.

You don't watch basketball if you think pointer is one of our best players.
