Xavier game

With the countless rotation changes and varying starting lineups, I just figured Lavin was experimenting against our weak OOO schedule. But to see Gift and Greene start our first BE game, is inexplicable. As if that wasn't bad enough, Lavin started them again in the 2nd half. . Throw in Felix for a stretch, and Sir Dom at the point, and I'm certainly looking forward to drinking tonight.

In what was really a lousy game that we could have won with a better game plan, I saw a beacon of hope and believe that we still can improve. Rysheed Jordan is fantastic at attacking the rim. It is a real shame that he has not been able to log more minutes. I think he will soon be able to start to increase his assist numbers along with his drives. if he can do this, I think we have a chance of improving and possibly stealing the Big East Tournament.

P.S. - Branch should always be on the court when Jordan isn't.

Agree.

Just spoke with a fellow fan, and we both said Jordan or Branch should always be on the floor running the point.

The only way Greene should run point, if Jordan AND Branch both has 4 fouls. Even then, he should only run it for a couple a minutes before putting one of 'em back in.
Most posters have been saying that all year. Too bad Lavin doesn't see it that way.

Sorry but I believe Greene is better than Branch and like when Greene is out there

Besides being a better jump shooter, what is phil better than Branch at?

ive been lurking here for a while and finally got incensed enough to sign up and post.

I haven't been this frustrated with a loss in a while. I guess im just sick and tired of getting OUT-COACHED almost every single game against teams with much less talent than us.

Ive read through a lot of the comments and I basically share most of the same sentiments. I'd like to add that Jakarr Sampson is the most frustrating player to watch in the 19 years ive followed this team. He cost us the syracuse game imo and when we were down 5 today, after the jordan steal, he screwed up an easy fast-break which could have helped us steal this game. Im sure hes a nice kid, but he's the most selfish player ive seen put on a st. john's uniform.

Lavin can bring in all the top 100 recruits, all the juco all-americans he wants but he will never be a winning coach. Outside of Syracuse, what team has more talent than us on our schedule?

Im sure very few will agree with me, but St. John's will never have a shot of being a top team again until they move on from mr. hollywood.

Sadly I agree with you about Sampson. Im not 19 years in to this team but he is the most selfish I have seen.

Reminds me of Mason jr...

Yea? I never though selfishness was a problem for mase. Wasnt the smartest player and didnt have the best players around him. Nor was he as talented as Jakarr

Phil Greene is a black hole out there. He has the skill, as you saw on that nice take where he did the finger roll, he just does not have a good feel for the game.

I don't think greene hurts the team as much as starting gift does. at the very least greene can hit an occasional three, which we sorely lack. I do think branch or jordan have to be on the floor at all times.

Did lavin give a reason in the post-game presser as to why gift started?

Lavin started the second half with no point guard on the floor and we never recovered. I don't get it. Every game he has done this against a team with any skill we have paid a high price.

Agree 1000%. Consider myself a pro-Lavin guy but don't understand why he does this...only thing more puzzling was changing the starting lineup for the 1st BE game with seemingly no basis to support such as change and doing so with GG...does not make sense...

we had the better personnel and blew it...reminded me of a boxer who starts flailing after getting hit instead of continuing to leverage his advantages

Talents like C O and Jordan have a fraction of the experience they should have because we have and use too many players

Someone please explain to me what makes them believe that StJohn's has "talented" basketball players.

Thanks.

high school rankings and who was recruiting them. at least that's what I use

I have never thought that selfishness was Sampsons issue. He does, however, have a serious case of butter fingers. I find Harrison to be our most selfish player.

Agreed, I like Greene. The beating he takes on the site often surprises me. I really did not see him as a problem today. He is definitely one of our best shooters.

My top issue with today's loss....

-Defensive
-Coaching (our juniors are still clueless in the half court offense)
-Bigs have to play like bigs.
