Why are we not being looked at by ACC?

 Why can't this happen...

To ACC: SJ, G'Town, Nova, UConn, Cincy
To Big 10: USF, L'Ville, Rutgers

All others like Prov, SH, DePaul, etc. merge with C-USA

Problem solved?

It would take a ton of arm twisting... it seems like the Big X would need to bullied the most to take usf, l'ville and rutgers in football ... but who knows.. I have no real opinion on what is possible.

I wish ESPN would just announce "St. John's is the 16th team to the ACC". I can't be as excited about the season if we are stuck in the Big East. We know UConn, L'Ville, Nova, and G'Town are gone at some point. Abandon ship now or we are stuck with Prov, SH, USF, DePaul, UCF, SMU, Houston, etc.

easy Joe. step back off the ledge. Their really is no opportunity at this time for these other programs.
We are all stuck in the abyss and must make the most of it, period.

"ESPN - talking to B10 and B12 about expanding with remaining BE teams. Trying to convince ACC to take Georgetown / St Johns as a non-football member. Will offer BE low ball offer now saying ND has left and they hear rumors of other teams leaving."

This is a rumor spreading around a forum. They mentioned us being targeted possibly.

This whole thing is really fascinating... I know the Big East has really taken pretty big hit - but does the ACC's commissioner really want that blood on his hand? - to completely destroy/cripple the Big East by stealing away MSG as a recruiting tool from all the remaining Big East schools? It seems a bit too Machiavellian. I presume the ACC's best move is to make sure the Big East plays second fiddle to the ACC in both football and basketball, and stop there. I'm not sure how killing off the whole Big East helps the ACC or ESPN. I can't imagine that the ACC/ESPN doesn't want solid non-conference competitors for TV ratings. Destroying the North-Atlantic's interest in basketball can't be a net-net positive for TV ratings for ESPN.... or can it?
Or maybe on the other hand, does destroying the Big East and having the main members absorbed into the other conferences make sense?... on a net basis, compared to before, would northeast fans watch more football (and basketball) in a super conference that is a little more relevant on a national stage? That might make sense.
Maybe that's too deep thinking... Occam's razor principle is probably at work here; meaning that the simplest answer is usually the correct answer: The ACC, as a 2nd tier football conference is simply just trying to ensure it's own survival, and that's it... and the heck with the ramifications for other schools.

This can go so many different ways, that's what makes this such interesting fodder for off-season talk!

I just hope that all this nonsense doesn't hurt our short-term recruiting. We need some competitors whispering into the ears of our recruiting targets that SJU is on the wrong side of the re-alignment war like i need a new hole in my head...

Trust me if they can totally destroy the BE they will. Wouldnt Pepsi want to destroy Coca Cola if it could?

Syracuse would block us from entering the ACC.

The BE started without Pitt, West Virginia, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Lets get back to our roots and rebuild the conference. Adding Memphis and Temple more then offsets Pitt and Syracuse. Maybe we can add Xaviar and encourage Rutgers to leave . Never liked Rutgers, something about them , they think their better then they are and show no loyalty to the conference that catipulted them into the big time. Maybe theres a reason the ACC and Big 12 don't want them. But imagine if Rutgers did get into the ACC and having to put up with them next door ?
