Why are we not being looked at by ACC?

SJ is totally rejuvinated with a new big time coach, great recruits, but most importantly we bring the NYC market which is gigantic. I understand in the past 10 years we probably only had 1 or 2 good years, but shouldn't the market and comeback of SJ basketball make someone else take a look at adding us? I say we beg the ACC to add us because we all know the Big East is done (as a major conference at least).

Actually, according to Sporting News, St. John's is a more likely target than G'Town because they want our market.

Also, here's a quick list of what we can offer which I think is pretty solid

-NYC market
-Rejuvinated men's bball team
-Ranked women's bball team coming off sweet 16
-Ranked men's soccer
-Ranked men's LAX
-Great golf (not that it really matters)
-MSG aka most famous and prestigious place to play

Funny...........6 months ago most of us (if not all) hated the likes of Syracuse and Pittsburgh for leaving......now we we are starting to show signs of wishing we were like them.

Well I mean we stayed as long as we could...do you want to go down with the Titanic, or jump off and go in the lifeboat named the ACC? If you go down with the ship we play for a high end mid-major conference like the A-10. If we jump ship we will be in even better position than we were before when the Big East was by far the best. We need to start calling and begging the ACC to take us and use the NYC market as the main attraction. We all know someone else is going to leave any second now, so we should do it asap.

Maybe SJU, Georgetown and Villanova need to see if they can find a package deal somewhere.

At some point, it's every man for himself. That point is right now. None of the other schools want to show loyalty, so why should we? Would you rather us be seen as "loyal and true" playing in a mid-major conference, or a "traitor" but join the ACC and continue to play the highest level of competition and keep our name brand? If we play in a mid-major conference say bye bye to the recruits and the big deal about basketball which means less money and cutbacks...could get very very ugly.

Yes.

It's an A-hole mentality, but a necessary one. We should always decry those who leave us, but defend ourselves if we have to do it. You can't be nice, and non-hypocrictal, and play major college sports anymore. That should be obvious.

At some point it shifts from "being nice" to looking out for yourself. We should be in survival instinct mode right now to save our own butts. If we don't get an ACC invite, SJ basketball is gone. With no platform, we will become just another mid major.

We aren't in the top 50 schools, which is all Fr. Jenkins could talk about during the press conference! I guess he thinks people are stupid, it's always about the money, not about academic quality.

Neither is Rutgers and they are being looked at. What I don't get is this: why can't the ACC just say listen...St. John's, UConn, G'Town, Nova come over? Why not make it a package deal? SJU was also recently ranked #150 in national universities out of thousands of schools. So the academics are nothing to laugh at.

I am sorry, but I have hated the ACC since before there was a Big East. Raiding our market for the best players, it will only get worse. We join the ACC and I don't know what I will do.

Coach Lavin does have many friends at ESPN. ESPN was behind this from the beginning. Hopefully Coach Lavin can pull some strings and get ESPN tell the ACC to add us as the second basketball only school because of the New York market. If St. Johns wants this Coach Lavin might be the one who can make it happen.

The same thing all of us will do: hold your nose, accept that the new reality stinks, and look forward to seeing more of some pretty good basketball schools until the next major shift in college sports.

Having no football is what is killing us. It's as simple as that. What are we even remotely relevant in, other than basketball? Absolutely nothing!!

People have made references to our success in other sports. But here's a question for ya. How often do you actually get to watch Lacrosse or even college baseball(other than the CWS) on TV??

Let's face it, other than the months of Mid-November thru March, we have nothing to offer anyone, publicity wise. And its the same problem that Nova, Georgetown, and UConn (at least they have a somewhat relevant football program) face. Other than basketball season, the rest of the year is blank for us.

And lets remember that we used to have a football program, but we got rid of it. Reasoning behind that decision was Title IX compliance. But it was OUR administration that CHOSE football to be one of the programs to be cut.

There is a the idea that 'in order to make money, you have to spend money.' Well our administration chose to not spend money, and now it is coming back to haunt us.

We were satisfied with basically being a basketball only school for years. But now no one wants a basketball only school. When things were changing, we just sat there and let them, without doing anything. You can't be mad at anyone else. The only ones we can be mad at is ourselves.

Just for the record, Rutgers, New Brunswick (according to U.S. News) is not that far off from the top 50. In top 70, make of it what you will.

Pitt and Syracuse tied at #58

Also remember the national university category does not include schools like Nova, PC, or, for that matter, Marist.

Again though, if you are a ranked school in the top 150 or so, it means you are a respected school academically. The specific order of the ranks is not scientific though. You can easily pay off princeton review or another company to flatter your school more than it deserves. By the way, I remember you guys bashing Marist. The latest ranking if you follow them is #8 in the entire Northeast. To compare, Providence is #4 and Nova #1. The acceptance rate is now only 30% and not many schools can say that.
