When Keita Returns

The end of the 6 week period is right before conference play. Although, I would be conservative and look for 1st couple of weeks in January. Only Keita and the doctors know. I'd rather see him take the time and not come back too early. Re-injured equals done for season.
We need him to be healthy. IMO, he will not be 100% anytime this season and will be used sparingly as a back up when he returns. Josh Roberts should be a main focus of development for the staff but I don't have a clue who works with bigs on this staff. We could have used Zendon this season.
If Kareem, Olajuwon, Ewing and the ghost of Wilt Chamberlain work with him every day he still would not be able to contribute right away. Earlington, Roberts and Williams were recruited as projects to hopefully be able to contribute down the line. Roster makeup as far as guard to forward is not good. But people expecting thee freshman who were recruited to be at end of bench to step right in are not being realistic.
"Roster makeup as far as guard to forward is not good." ???

We have one of the best backcourts in D1 and our forwards can play with anyone. What we don't have is anyone over 6'7 who is "good". Even with Keita the roster makeup of the 4 and 5 positions was below top 25 program competitive levels.
It is this season's Achilles heal. Every year there is a missing part in this program. Last night I watched 6'10, 265 lb Grant Golden of Richmond against Jesse Govan. The kid was a beast. Mullin, on the other hand, is recruiting 6'9, 200 lb projects if we are to believe the Josh Roberts critics.
How about some 6'10"-7'+ projects for a change?
Like Bol-Bol? Rowan, Barrett, Bol. Everywhere where St. John's should have been on their list because of Mullin we bombed. Every local player except Ponds, we bombed. Let's see if year four of recruiting changes that history.
I would love to see the coach that was going to get Barret to come play in Queens in Louie Arena with Marvin Clark instead of at Duke in Cameron with Zion.

As I noted on Twittah, it's a damn shame we couldn't hold on to Brooks. Poor kid can't get off the bench at SC and he's been recruited over, meaning he'll likely transfer (would be funny if he came back to us after leaving us to go back to them). I know I think his issue was distance from home, but really a shame, he would have been a really nice fit on this roster. I think he's good too, SC just has some really solid upperclass bigs and they play small like us, and they have 2 top 10 bigs coming in next year. I digress though.
I miss us having a legitimate shot-blocker.
Feast or famine unfortunately. We’ve lead the league in shotblocking for the last decade give or take. Funny because Yakwe would have been getting more PT here and at least he could guard his man and block shots, with Keita out. He’d have been a lot more serviceable than Roberts. Let’s all just hope Keita comes back soon and healthy. He’s a big kid, good athlete and will fill that big hole we have so teams can’t gameplan against us.

Distance from home?

Maybe watching us lose 11 games in a row and people telling him he's nuts to play at St. John's. Especially since by mid February it was already rumored Shamorie Ponds would declare fir the draft and there was no Heron or Figueroa on the horizon.

In his defense, Mullin did have a verbal commitment from Jordan Brown.

Don't forget that if that bastard didn't choke against Georgetown in 85, we would have been national champs.

Let it go Beast! That was 33 years ago. I only dislike the last 3 Mullin years.:p

Yakwe would still be riding the pine here, the staff had lost all confidence in him. His defense, when he got in games was lackadasical and his rebounding, oh wait he couldn't rebound because he was too busy trying to block shots to box out. Would he be better than Roberts? I dunno, but Roberts is a youngster with potential while Yakwe had outlived his usefulness here. I like Kasoum as a person but he made the right move getting out of Queens.

I don’t know about Mullin receiving a verbal commit but keep an eye on Jordan Brown Transferring.

This is actually the second time in less than a month that a poster said this.

May be confusing him with the cross dressing, tranny, kleptomaniac from Florida. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :eek:hmy:

When Keita returns, I pretty much expect the same stats that he's giving us right now. So hopefully he can do a bunch of things that don't show up on standard stat sheet.

Mea culpa. I was confusing him with J’Raan Brooks. Either way, it looked like Mullin had a front-court stud in the stable. (And hey, give me a break. I can remember the details of recruiting from 30 years ago, but have a tough time with those details for recent recruits. Something about long-term/short-term memory ... so treat me nice.)

It was JaRaan Brooks who committed and then decommitted.

72, you're right. As I just responded to Paultzman's post questioning Brown's commitment, it was, in fact, J’Raan Brooks whom I was thinking of. (It ain't easy getting old.)

I knew it was J’raan Brooks, But I still stick by my statement. Look for Jordan Brown to transfer in the future.
