I agree. I suspect he will move back to socal and do the ESPN thing for a while. I heard rumors this season that his wife hated this past winter weather and wanted to move back to socal and when your wife looks like she does that carries a lot of weight.

Lavin as sju's new Athletic Director. Could you guys imagine?

If it was a movie the plot twist would be ridiculous. Monasch hates Lav and wants him out, spends a year and a half trying to get him out of town and finally convinces his new boss to can lavin and Hire Mullin.

Meanwhile Lav realizes his job is in jeopardy and decides to make a power play that would rival the likes of Fluite and Laettner; in reference to Rounders and the great Knish, "You made a move on Monasch?". Lavin had convinced Bobby G that he couldn't handle the rigors of head bball coach but as a "GM" of the school he could work wonders. Bobby agrees and helps lavin set up a departure.

Monasch Never saw it coming.

There is a script that could be written to this. Fun should get on it.

Actually, I believe Fun did throw out the possibility at one point of Lavin becoming AD. From what I have heard, the bridges have been burned at this point.

I wonder if his buyout has some restrictive covenants - I'm guessing not.

My guess is that with a nice lump sum buyout he is enjoying the summer off, travelling a bit, enjoying life. If he decides to jump back into coaching for 2016-2017, there will be takers, especially since he did what many thought was no longer possible - reverse the sinking ship our program had become and restore it to national prominence. I would also think that based on the relationships he had with his senior players that he will at some point return to the sidelines, and any ESPN gigs will be short term.

He should run for office. His poll numbers on this board were pretty good.

Yeah he is a republican state rep in Montana.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Lavin_%28politician%29

Seriously according to an article about phil greene's chances in the NBA, Lavin was at a coffee shop in lower Manhattan. so he is still in NYC although it wouldn't surprise me if he moved back west.

Maybe he saw the movie San Andreas and decided to stay on the east coast.

Good luck to SL whatever he decides to do. Hopefully back to ESPN.

I did. It's exactly the type of position that plays to his strengths: vapid glad-handling and picking the restaurant.

I wasn't a member of this site during Lavin's first two years so I don't know if my point has been covered before but I wonder how much the decline of Lavin's first year success on the court and in recruiting was due to his health.
I am a lot older than Lavin and have been lucky enough to never get a diagnosis like he did but I have known others who have and many times their outlook on their career takes a back seat to personal matters.
A multi hour operation and a long recovery period indicates his condition must have been pretty serious.

My wife goes about 260 so like Lavin's wife she carries a lot of weight. (JK) :)

Much easier gig. Less stress, less headaches but also less money. He can now speak of everyone elses mistakes instead of them speaking about his. Not bad work if you can get it.

Kind of like what we do here.

Except for even more less money.

Lavin is going back broadcasting

Another MrGoogle exclusive!
I don't want to steal your thunder, but I hear Iowa State will replace Hoiberg with another coach.

Is Lav going to broadcast from the ISU bench?

Much easier gig

Not to mention that his stupidity - a detriment in his chosen profession - is a boon on TV. Also the desk he sits behind will hide his giant pasta belly, so no more spanx and sweatsuits. All in all a match made in heaven.

Too bad. At times, 14-year-olds seem to be your targeted audience.
