St. John's guard Shamorie Ponds has workouts set up with the Celtics (today and tomorrow), Nets (May 10-11), Cavaliers (May 11-12), and Pistons (May 24), per his father. Nothing has changed in terms of decision. Going through evaluation process.
If the staff strikes out during the early signing period, which they have EVERY year since Ponds, this season won't even matter.
Regardless of whether or not he leaves, Mullin's gone.
I don't understand how we can EXPECT to be a big success in the early signing period coming off of 3 straight losing seasons and haven't won a tournament game in 2 decades. To me, if Mullin is able to pull of any big name recruits prior to a successful season next year, it will be a miracle.

Hopefully Shamorie Ponds paid attention to this schedule:

Spring 2018 Undergraduate Final Examinations or Final Class Meetings Schedule
Thursday, May 3, 2018 – Wednesday, May 9, 2018

If a class meets only one day a week, the final exam will meet in the regular room and start at the regular class time. All final exams run for 2 hours.

7th if he leaves.
I just don't see this happening with the current coaching staff.
I'm not happy with Mullin and Richmond hanging out poolside in Cali while there were events to attend, but if they are able to translate HoF playing talent to actual game strategy, they both had tons of individual success playing with a lack of big men. I think Ponds, Simon, Clark, and Figueroa will be among the highest scoring foursomes in the country, so willing to give benefit of doubt in this instance. If we had landed a starter-quality big man, I think from players 1 to 7 we'd be right there with the tier immediately below the best teams in the country. I think very highly of our starters on paper. Now let's see if coaches do the necessary work.
From my understanding, the plan has always been to play a run and gun type of game, and to compensate for lack of height with forcing turnovers. We were a huge success with forcing turnovers last year. There were even points last year where our guards did a great job of rebounding. Unfortunately late in the season, we ended up with such a short rotation that the plan had to be shifted. With so much depth this year, I'm anxious to see how it all plays out. With Ponds back in the fold, of course.
I wouldn't say we have 'so much depth' on the roster now, but it is a very good group of starters, running 6 deep through Dixon, with the potential for Trimble and Williams to contribute.
And while we have shallow 'depth' in the front court, with two unproven freshmen coming in, I'd still rate then better than Ali-b and Yakwe.
Not expecting anything from Diakite due to his uncertain rehab status. Has anyone heard any updates on BD?

I don’t think you will see much of him this season & remember Caraher & Wright are transfer forwards. Suspect he is being recruited over. Just my opinion.

Recruited over as we speak in fact!

Good input Paultz. Thanks.
Gives you something to fantasize sucking, asshole. I will be supporting all future coaching staffs.. But my guess is that Mullin will be here for quite awhile much to your displeasure.
If Mullin is here for quite a while it will mean he finally achieved some success as a coach which will pleasure all on this board, regardless of our opinions. And while that may not appear highly likely right now that may indeed be possible , unfortunately you showing any class likely is not.

When I say depth, I mean bodies. Last year our 7th man off the bench was a walk on!!

Only because last season Mullin, "a players' coach", was encouraging Kassoum Yakwe to "walk" off the team.
Mission accomplished coach!

“bodies = depth = bodies = depth = bodies." K i get it now. Thanks Roomy!
Net/net, however and whichever-way we tally it, we're a better team IF Ponds comes back.

ALB, no sweat . Many here . Like yourself , are through with the crap put out by a small , group of whining moaners . We are wirh you and if you notice there is push back from fans like us who believe Mullin and Staff are putting the pieces together this off season and have Figueroa coming in this year , along with Keita and Dixon plus Williams , Roberts and maybe Diakite if he is healthy . It looks good to me . Next year there is Carraher, Wright and possibly Gaffney , Cockburn and more TBD . Yet , if the doomers are to be believed , Coach Mullin is not doing a thing right . They all talk about a big man as if Keita isn’t big enough . They point to poor rebounding last year as if that means anything for next season . Sure , Owens , Yakwe basically gave us nothing on either Board . Expect to hear Yakwe could not rebound from the Bench but, they forget he more than earned his seat by contributing Nothing ! Owens , a nice Role player was out of his league trying to hold his own against Govan , Bulloch , Delgado all much stronger and tougher . Getting anothet Scorer like Figueroa will more than compensate for the loss of Owens . Keep posting Al! The Anti Mullin crowd is a long way from being the core of St John’s basketball and its loyal fans . They forget Lavin never won a BE Tourney game or a NCAA game with his recruits . Mullin’s 4 th season will yield much better results than Lavin . In my opinion , Lavin lost his zeal in Coaching with his prostate Cancer , a life threatening illness and the soon after loss of his Father . Life events that would drain anybody . His leaving the Team , without any talent coming in 2015 hastened his not being retained .
