What if Ponds leaves?

St. John's guard Shamorie Ponds has workouts set up with the Celtics (today and tomorrow), Nets (May 10-11), Cavaliers (May 11-12), and Pistons (May 24), per his father. Nothing has changed in terms of decision. Going through evaluation process.

Shamorie Ponds is still taking classes and has been working out on campus. St. John's fans need to be patient, and let this play out. #sjubb

Tea leaves say he returns :)

7th if he leaves.
I just don't see this happening with the current coaching staff.
I'm not happy with Mullin and Richmond hanging out poolside in Cali while there were events to attend, but if they are able to translate HoF playing talent to actual game strategy, they both had tons of individual success playing with a lack of big men. I think Ponds, Simon, Clark, and Figueroa will be among the highest scoring foursomes in the country, so willing to give benefit of doubt in this instance. If we had landed a starter-quality big man, I think from players 1 to 7 we'd be right there with the tier immediately below the best teams in the country. I think very highly of our starters on paper. Now let's see if coaches do the necessary work.

THINK THAT WOULD BE SMART, I am leaning that he returns, However, the sky will not fall if he decides to leave, LF WILL will pick up a lot of the scoring loading provide better D AS as shooting better from 3 Not saying that currently he is as good but has the talent to be better with our wonderful staff and ability coaching up guards

Losers are those fair weather fans who bitch and moan about everything going on with the program, when in reality they know very little about the decision making progress of our coaching staff. Then when the season is in progress they puff their chests out after a win, as if they contributed to the win, and remain unwilling to give this coaching staff any credit.. Then after a loss they act like the world is coming to an end, and attack the coaching staff. Most of you don't know shit about basketball and are really just pretend fans. Pathetic!!!

I choose to be positive until proven wrong, rather than to be negative, like the many losers on this board, and be proven wrong.
So because a good number of us aren't looking at this team through rose-colored glasses -- especially if Ponds doesn't return -- and are concerned about the lack of depth at the 5 given what a bad rebounding team we were last year, we're losers? Realists maybe, but losers? (And for the record, I'm sure all the posters you're calling losers will be rooting their butts off for this team next season.)
Ken,

From my standpoint, I am just exhausted from reading post after post saying the same things. It is basically just spamming the board, thereby making it virtually unreadable at times.

If the staff strikes out during the early signing period, which they have EVERY year since Ponds, this season won't even matter.
Regardless of whether or not he leaves, Mullin's gone.

Al, lighten up wuld-ja? You’re becoming as bad as those you rail against.
In our Johnnies world, it’s mezza-mez to being optimistic or pessimistic.
It is what it is.
Next season looks like it can be very promising.
Let’s leave it at that and hope for good things from then on and root like hell.

Wow, you are a dick. The biggest complaint by far is that we need a big man, and when our two NBAers enter witness protection, that makes finding one harder. How do you not get that? More and more every day, I suspect you are one of those guys who got chatted up by a coach for five minutes at some school function, and now that clouds everything you say.

If Mullin flames out and leaves, the absolute best part is that you'll likely be one of those posters that takes his ball and goes home, never to be heard from again. Has anyone seen Q in Yonkers lately?

Gives you something to fantasize sucking, asshole. I will be supporting all future coaching staffs.. But my guess is that Mullin will be here for quite awhile much to your displeasure.

There are those that will call out someone, if they think that person doesn't care, no matter who it is.
Then there are those that will bend over for "the man", that could do no wrong as if he's godly.

I might not no much about bball Al, but I do know one thing Al.
To get good recruits you actually have to be seen by them.

Maybe if he was out recruiting, we wouldn't be so hard on him after every loss, because we'd see that atleast he's actually trying.
He was a great talker at the intro press conf, but he isn't backing that talk up, which I think pisses alot of people off, except the ass kisses on here.
LJF is a pro scorer huh, because he did it in JC? I'll wait till i see what he does at the DI level before annointing him a great scorer.
Finally, Lavin and Mullin taught me something. No matter the coach, no matter his record early on in his coaching at SJU. Wait a few years to see if he keeps recruiting, not just one AC, but everyone on the staff puts in the effort.
When we see that, we'll know he's the right coach.

Q in Yonkers said he'd be around for future coaching staffs too. That was the last post he ever made on this board.

What do you consider to be "quite awhile"? He'll be 55 in July and never expressed any desire to coach before we offered $2 million per. He is here five more years tops, regardless of whether his record is great or not.

With Ponds we finish 3rd. Without Ponds we finish 5th.
Pass the pipe (dream).
WITH Ponds I "hope" to finish 5th with a chance to dance. Had the staff done its job recruiting a serviceable Big I would have agreed with you. The wildcard is coaching and I hope Mullin has learned some lessons from the 0-11 start from last season.

No more personal attacks, on either side of the fence, or threads may just start being locked

From my understanding, the plan has always been to play a run and gun type of game, and to compensate for lack of height with forcing turnovers. We were a huge success with forcing turnovers last year. There were even points last year where our guards did a great job of rebounding. Unfortunately late in the season, we ended up with such a short rotation that the plan had to be shifted. With so much depth this year, I'm anxious to see how it all plays out. With Ponds back in the fold, of course.
