What happened to Simon

I'm so glad he got coordinated in a couple of days.
Ummm...he passed up every long shot and drive all game. He scored in the paint. That’s his skill set. Did you listen on the radio?
He showed the discipline we have been looking for, and took advantage of his moments at the right times. He took one 3 that didn't count because of foul called on the dish. I have no problem with one or two open/in rhythm 3 attempts each game.

I've been saying for a while that Justin is our most important 2019 recruit (unless we are lucky enough to nab Precious of course).
He’s our most important 2019 recruit if he wants to play in the paint, post, and cut. He’s not our most important recruit if he wants to be a guard.
Net of us landing a whale, Simon is our most important 2019 recruit if he plays just exactly as he has for 90+% of his time in an SJU uniform. He's a little better than 11/6/4 in 56 games for us on 47% shooting and is probably the best perimeter defender in the conference.

Not a PG and not a shooter, but he nevertheless lead the team in both assists and 3P% last year largely due to unselfishness and selectivity.

Got away from the latter for a short period this year, ironically potentially because around the Gtown/Nova/DePaul stretch we actually got too focused on him posting up smaller guards (which he can do, but shouldn't be option 1) which when that didn't produce seemed to result in him standing at 3 (where he shouldn't spend much time).

Simon is a perimeter slasher first and foremost who can go 3 line to rim in 2 sometimes 1 dribble. That's when he's at his best offensively, because he can go over the top of guards and right by wings. We saw both last night.

And despite not being a shooter he is a shot maker which can be more important. Of his 8 hoops last night, maybe 1-2 dunks were gimmes. He otherwise made some difficult, creative shots in traffic and through contact. You can't fake 47% as a guard over 56 games.

Kid is just a hooper, and a leader to boot. Has limitations no doubt, but give me more guys like him any day.

I must admit that Simon drives me nuts, but he was great last night. Play within your abilities and good things happen.

I'd love for him to hit 4 straight 3's vs. PC, and dare them to keep leaving him open at the 3pnt line.

Yeah, he had a great game at Marq, but anyone could have one great game, the key is now to get consistent, do it again on Saturday, no going back to stupid wild layup shots.
Play smart again like you did at Marq.

Exactly!!!!!!
If him reading this pisses him off, and he plays on Saturday like he played at Marq then I'll gladly remain the asshole with a smile.
I'll take full credit for him beasting vs. the opposition.

Exactly my point.
4pnts 2-8 shooting, 1board in 35minutes

It’s obvious by now that if an opposing team has athletes that match Simons length and quickness he instantly becomes a less impactful player.

He terrorized the Hauser boys and the small Howard, but it’s gonna be tough for him against athletic teams and Providence is probably the most athletic team in the conference this year.

Without disparaging Simon and Clark, who are great individuals & teammates, it is fair to note both are not having the sold seasons we anticipated from veteran players. Streaky play is apparent and a bit disappointing. Hopefully both come around starting now.

We have two players on this team that can hurt you off the dribble: Ponds and Heron. When one of them is out, we are not a good team. We just don’t have enough weapons.

In time Figueroa can be a guy that consistently gets to the rim, but for now he needs to rely on defenders biting on fakes, bad closeouts, and having a step or two going downhill.

Simon and Clark need others to be the first options in order for them to be successful.

I think a big part of their inconsistency is due to the thin roster, forcing them to do more than they are capable of doing. They have too much mileage on their engines causing them to putter along.

With the addition of Heron and LJ, Justin & Marvin's roles have changed from last year. Shamorie is option 1A, 1B, 1C, Heron and LJ are options 2 and 3, Clark and Simon are options 4 & 5. Both of them have problems when we play big physical teams. Justin can't do his thing in the lane and Marvin has trouble with guys that are taller and quicker than him and frequently gets caught outside guarding players he can't handle.

Marv has also struggled with his jumper, role change or not. He gets an ample amount of shots, but has been very streaky.

His shot total has been trending down lately, he's taken 16 in the last 3 BE games. He took 16 against DeP when Ponds was out. Either he's not getting the ball enough in good spots or he's lost some confidence. If Heron's out again Tuesday Marvin needs to take more of the scoring load.

He has imo been getting ball in good spots, but seems to have lost his stroke. Of course he can regain that & obviously a thin team needs a marked improvement if short again Tuesday, a real chance of happening I sense.

I said earlier in the season that we all need to imagine this team without Mustapha Heron. I was emphasizing how weak our recruiting had been and how we would barely be a 500 team without his late addition. This has been, as stated by others, an unbalanced and poorly structured roster build. It is worse than what Steve Lavin ever did imo.

Thanks for the meditative exercise, John Lennon. Now indulge me for a moment while I do the same. Imagine a world where sports are just for the enjoyment of the spectator...where negativity and needless worrying about worst-case scenarios don’t exist.

Once sports become a negative force on one’s life, it’s time to walk away.
