Welcome Mikey Dixon

Well, I hope this works out. Personally, I am disappointed to use a scholarship on another small guard. In fact, this kid is beyond small. At 160 lbs, he is now our lightest player.

I love Ponds, Mussini and Lovett, but getting smaller at the guard position was not on my wish list.

Boys versus men gets old quick.

He has a year and a summer to put on weight, and he's already 6'2, which would make him taller than Mussini, Ponds, and Lovett.

No player at SJU puts on weight

No weight room I was told

Would prefer to have Luther Muhammad ... which might seem less likely after this.

Don't think that's the case at all if our three-guard sets look good this coming season.

I am sorry and nothing against the kid but our recruiting plan since Fran got fired seems to be just get the best kids that will agree to come here regardless of position, skill or style of play the coach wants to use.

6-0 150 pound guards are great if you want to press and run, but you can't run if you do not rebound!

According to ESPN he committed to the St. John's Red Flash...

I actually like that name better than Red Storm. The school can link up with DC and care out a nice marketing niche for themselves.

Oh wait, that means the school would need to create a marketing department to capitalize on a marketing niche. Never mind then. ...

And instead of wearing sweats over their uniforms, our Red Flash players could wear raincoats.

Nice pickup to strengthen the roster/rotation.
I hope the next acquisitions are BIGS that can play. We need to have a presence in the paint. Need to get some defenders to make us a force.
Keep up the good work, Matt.

What you you see in this picture? Bones
Freaking bones.

Yeah, he has 18months, I hope he could put on at the very least 30lbs.

Why is everyone assuming we are getting another small guard? This kid will never hit the floor with the combination of Lovett and Ponds. He isn't another small guard, he will be replacing another small guard. Incidentally he is taller than both Lovett and Ponds . In this video I see a kid a active kid with long arms and the ability with his handle to get wherever he wants on the court. When he gets there he has a pretty solid little jumper and he also finishes well for a skinny guard in contact. Some people might be in love with height or weight but the kid looks like a player to me and that's the most important thing :)

I never noticed that. But looking at the picture of him in the SJ uniform , his arms are long. And by sitting out a year he will gain weight and put on muscle.

Still like the Red Flash though.

I am not 100% sure but I think the Red Flash is already taken. I think its St Francis of Pennsylvania. I use to work with a guy and one year they made the NCAA Tourney and the guy was really excited. Of course, back then I was fairly confident that the Redmen of St John's would be in the Tourney so I paid him very little mind. How things have changed.

I think we are the only fan base that gets its panties in a twist about how much a player weighs.

Until we watch half the league blow by said players, unimpeded to the basket

What does how much they weigh have to do with their failure to play defense. Unless we get some really fat players and the opponents get tired from fighting their gravitational pull I don't see the connection.

John Linehan was listed very generously at 5'8" 165 lbs and maybe the best on-ball defender I've seen at the PG position in the Big East ever. The other was probably Ricky Moore from Uconn, also 6'2" and about 160 as a freshman. I rest my case...

I think someone at ESPN did it on purpose.

We were actually known as the Red Flesh during the Norm years from all the numerous and sundry ass whippings of the era.

I would bring your Karma to the positive side if I could for this post :)

Moose, how in the hell did your Karma get over 6,000 negatives?

I guess you don't remember the 6-6, 300+ pounder, Mr. Ed Brown, who I believe was the last recruit of Brian Mahoney. Bon appetite!

No because I was still two coaches removed from attending SJU

Don't think the fact another school has the name would be an impediment. SEC alone has 3 schools named Tigers-LSU, Auburn and Missouri. Sure there are many others and St. Francis of P not exactly well known on the D1 landscape.

Heard they contracted to have one built but mistakenly the contractors built a waiting room.

Are you sure you don't mean the Jarvis (Pittsburgh) Error?
