Welcome to SJU Mikey Dixon.
Think perhaps the best part about this is the planning component. Nice to have solid transfers, with D1 playing experience + a year of practice, in the fold so that program is not reliant upon impact Top 100 high school kids. Hope to get them, but not reliant upon doing so. Already seeing potential benefit of that with Simon and Clark next year as our roster has turned over a bit.
Because reality is outside of that ultra-high caliber of freshman, chances are a 21 year old would-be junior who excelled at the MAAC level right away is probably going to be more immediately impactful than most other guys you bring in.
So you pursue both and cover your bases. Not suggesting we should become transfer reliant either, as that has it's pitfalls. It's just not an either/or, it's hopefully both so that you aren't scrambling in the spring signing period.
In what limited I've seen of Dixon seems different than Lovett/Ponds. Not hyper-quick, more of a smooth game with quality skills and can score in a variety of ways. Seems like a longer 6'2". Think he would be complimentary to either or both of Lovett and Ponds.
It's largely a guards game and most programs aren't loaded with huge guards. Great to have size but probably even better to have guards that can play. UConn won the title a few years ago largely reliant upon Napier and Boatright. Like Simon and Clark now, imagine we will be very happy at this time next year to have Mikey Dixon.
