Welcome Mikey Dixon

This team is guard heavy....don't really understand this signing. I am sure he is a good player but we have greater needs in other areas.

He will most likely be taking LoVett's spot when he leaves after next season.

Would prefer to have Luther Muhammad ... which might seem less likely after this.

Don't think that's the case at all if our three-guard sets look good this coming season.

You are probably way off base on that assumption.

I have to imagine he was among the top freshman scorers in the country, and now he gets to practice next season against two very talented guards that we've verified with our own eyes, and potentially a third very talented one if the high school rankings and practice buzz are to be trusted. I fail to see the drawback.

Not comparing the two, but Curry was -- and still is -- skinny. Would we have complained about him transferring here because of size? Juan Dixon was skinny. So were tons of other guards. I'd say we have a ways to go before we have to be unhappy with the move.

Just because we are St. John's fans doesn't mean we always have to be unhappy.

Not less likely.

I think we are the only fan base that gets its panties in a twist about how much a player weighs.

What you you see in this picture? Bones
Freaking bones.

Yeah, he has 18months, I hope he could put on at the very least 30lbs.

Why is everyone assuming we are getting another small guard? This kid will never hit the floor with the combination of Lovett and Ponds. He isn't another small guard, he will be replacing another small guard. Incidentally he is taller than both Lovett and Ponds . In this video I see a kid a active kid with long arms and the ability with his handle to get wherever he wants on the court. When he gets there he has a pretty solid little jumper and he also finishes well for a skinny guard in contact. Some people might be in love with height or weight but the kid looks like a player to me and that's the most important thing :)

I would bring your Karma to the positive side if I could for this post :)

Welcome to SJU Mikey Dixon.

Think perhaps the best part about this is the planning component. Nice to have solid transfers, with D1 playing experience + a year of practice, in the fold so that program is not reliant upon impact Top 100 high school kids. Hope to get them, but not reliant upon doing so. Already seeing potential benefit of that with Simon and Clark next year as our roster has turned over a bit.

Because reality is outside of that ultra-high caliber of freshman, chances are a 21 year old would-be junior who excelled at the MAAC level right away is probably going to be more immediately impactful than most other guys you bring in.

So you pursue both and cover your bases. Not suggesting we should become transfer reliant either, as that has it's pitfalls. It's just not an either/or, it's hopefully both so that you aren't scrambling in the spring signing period.

In what limited I've seen of Dixon seems different than Lovett/Ponds. Not hyper-quick, more of a smooth game with quality skills and can score in a variety of ways. Seems like a longer 6'2". Think he would be complimentary to either or both of Lovett and Ponds.

It's largely a guards game and most programs aren't loaded with huge guards. Great to have size but probably even better to have guards that can play. UConn won the title a few years ago largely reliant upon Napier and Boatright. Like Simon and Clark now, imagine we will be very happy at this time next year to have Mikey Dixon.

Happy to see we are adding players to the mix in two years. Hopefully, he works hard over this time to get better. I am still wondering when we get bigger for next year?

According to ESPN he committed to the St. John's Red Flash...

I actually like that name better than Red Storm. The school can link up with DC and care out a nice marketing niche for themselves.

Oh wait, that means the school would need to create a marketing department to capitalize on a marketing niche. Never mind then.

Still like the Red Flash though.

I like the signing but I will be much happier when we get a couple of bigs for next season.

I think this is a real nice pick up. It gives us an experienced replacement for Lovett in 2018.

We are obviously a guard driven team. With a total of 4 schollies to give for 2017 (5 if Amar leaves), I'd assume the staff is working to fill multiple needs. We need a big or two. I wouldn't mind a shooting SF to compliment Ahmed. A couple of grad transfers would be great. That would leave a few openings for the 2018 class.
