Welcome Matt Abdemassih

@TravisHines21: Spoke ISU signee Darien Williams, who Abdelmassih recruited. He’s evaluating the news & how it relates to his future. (1/2)

@TravisHines21: He said he plans on being at ISU, but that Abdelmassih was his lead recruiter and that could change things for him. (2/2)

@TravisHines21: Williams certainly didn’t indicate he wasn’t going to come to ISU. He just got the news and wants to evaluate it.

@NYPost_Brazille: Scout's @EvanDaniels calls @mabde33 hire by Chris Mullin "tremendous," said it gives staff immediate credibility in area. #sjubb

Jumbo: i kind of had the opposite reaction..re your thought..
"Lavin was let go on Friday, by Monday we have a new head coach (without even taking a look at anyone else), and before we even have his press conference, he has one of his assistants already?
Something just seems fishy about all of it...."

To me it's seems there is FINALLY something professional going on. There is no reason not to have planned ahead for this change. This may be a smooth transition, effective and timely given recruiting. You would almost think someone in authority finally figured out how to manage a large corporate entity like a major university's sports program. Things haven't been this smooth since Lapchick to Carnesseca.

My take. Succession planning. As I said before, if they were going to make a change, they needed to know who they wanted and if asked, that person would be willing to accept the job. While I doubt anything was etched in stone or guaranteed, someone knew who they wanted and what the response would be, so they made it happen quickly. And yes, I believe that Chris, if offered has a rolodex full of names, he would consider as assistants. So I am not surprised at the quickness that this came together once the decision and the mutually agreed upon parting of ways occurred.

You should explain "rolodex" for the benefit of some of our younger members. :p

Great quotes from a true New York kid.

He's a PA kid, but great quotes nonetheless from an alum.

Great quotes from a true New York kid.

I always said: If you were born and raised in NYC, how could you ever want to leave it. It's the greatest city in the world.
Welcome home Matt.

Let me add my welcome, Matt. I hope it's the beginning of a beautiful relationship for you and St. John's.

Welcome Matt and I guarantee I will never be able to pronounce or spell your last name so I will just refer to you as Matt A
