Welcome Matt Abdemassih

Just a thought but it seems like he left on good terms with the Mayor, so would it be considered poor etiquette to bring a recruit with him?

For the record I could care less, just wondering if that would be a factor.

Would not put any credence on that. This still will be a difficult get, Matt A or not.

Did hear Matt has a Juco player in his sights, not sure of position, etc.

Can you please give me a basic "rundown" on Matt whom
I know very little about?
Thanks
And yes rose colored glasses week
If a poster cannot savor current happenings, well then...would likely be annoyed if we "only" make the elite 8 in a given year!

The way things are going down, it appears more and more like all of this was a done deal a very long time ago:

Lavin was let go on Friday, by Monday we have a new head coach (without even taking a look at anyone else), and before we even have his press conference, he has one of his assistants already?

Something just seems fishy about all of it....

Lets be honest here. Do you really think Mullin would have accepted the job if he already didn't have his staff pretty much lined up?

well...
let's see, he could say to Diallo..

" I was telling you to go to Iowa State because it would be good for your future career. Of course, I'll be leaving to go to St John's because...Well, it would be better for my future career, what with Mullin there and all the focus on the renaissance of a national power, but you do what ever you think best."

Jumbo: i kind of had the opposite reaction..re your thought..

To me it's seems there is FINALLY something professional going on. There is no reason not to have planned ahead for this change. This may be a smooth transition, effective and timely given recruiting. You would almost think someone in authority finally figured out how to manage a large corporate entity like a major university's sports program. Things haven't been this smooth since Lapchick to Carnesseca.

With the addition of Matt Abdemassih to the St. John's staff, this should have a major impact on the recruitment of 5-star Cheick Diallo.

The correct spelling of the name is Abdelmassih which means "Servant of the Messiah," a Christian (often Coptic Christian name).Interesting because over 90% of people whose surname begins with Abdel are Muslims.

Welcome Matt. Great to have you on board!.

It's not like Diallo wasn't offered and possibly considering St. John's in the first place, depending on the pieces remaining here. It's one thing not to have an offer from a school and have an assistant coach responsible for recruitment bolt and miraculously that recruit follows the assistant coach, in which his new school never extended an offer prior to assistant coach leaving. Diallo never committed to Iowa State to begin with so if he comes here, the Iowa State coaching staff can't be bent out of shape because we also offered. Diallo simply wanted to keep his options open, by not committing early, although we all know until recently, there was no chance of him coming here, so let’s chalk it up to a possible coincidence if he chooses red and white over red and yellow.

Feels awesome to poach the Football 5 schools for once. Hopefully more of that.

I agree with Albany. It is inconceivable that the handwriting wasn't on the wall for some time. Probably a means to save face all around to make the OFFICIAL announcement after SL finished the season with this seniors.

@TravisHines21: Hoiberg: "I’m really happy for Matt. It’s his home. He gets to go back to his alma mater. It’s a special, special place to him."

@TravisHines21: Hoiberg: "Even when I would go out and recruit with Matt in New York, it was like a kid in a candy store. He absolutely loves it out there."
