Welcome Damien Sears

“He’s every bit of 230. He knows how to throw his weight around, use his body really well and initiates and is able to absorb contact,” said Rolando De La Barrera, Sears’ coach at Western Oklahoma State. “That’s something they were looking for at this point just taking over the job. They wanted somebody to do the dirty work inside, an enforcer type of guy.”

Love that!
He shot 22% from the line two years ago. He double that this past year.
so he's on track for 88% this season. I'll take it ;)

Yup, Sears and McGriff were together on campus yesterday and not a peep.
Was DeMeo there with them?
Maybe a trifecta??????
Can't find much about this young man anywhere, which always concerns me. Like I said before, CMA gets a complete pass on recruits right now. He needs to fill out our roster. Welcome aboard Mr. Sears.
Agree Monte, filling out roster & getting right staff in place is key. Not expecting much next year, but this staff just might finally get program on track going forward
6'7" amd 230 pounds
This guy sounds like he is as solid as Sears
Hoping he can turn out like another transfer, from the seventies, John Farmer.

I’m loving it!!! Gritty, tough kids that stick their nose in the dirt on defense, cause havoc on the court, aren’t worried about press clippings or checking the bus schedule for the next bus out of town.
The coach is building something!

Welcome Damien, very excited to have you on board!

Tough rebounder and also looks like he can hit the mid range jumper; just needs to practice free throws all summer as he strikes me as a kid who will get to the line some.

Tough kid who will bang and can step out and knock down the jumper. This kid literally from the swamp in Louisiana... has horses, chased rabbits and other small game, snakes, gators, all of that. Some country toughness for you.

A 2 stat and a 3 star does not equate to a 5 star. It’s also is 6 years of scholarship’s, hopefully this board doesn’t do what usually takes place here and make them more than what they are.

Love tough and rebounders. Maybe we’re finally going for balance with basketball players not just athletes.

Anyone know if he knows Greg Williams? Louisiana becoming a recruiting ground for SJU. Anderson moving quickly to “beef up” the roster. Coach really working to make a tough situation better. Love it.

Like the tough nose recruits and between McGriff and Sears it shows that coach immediately understood where our gaps were (a true pg and rebounding) and went out to fill them very quickly.

Question remains if these guys are big east level talent but we will see soon enough.

Very optimistic about the growth so far.

Obviously beggars can't be choosers at this stage. If he gives us a shade over 2.1 ppg and 2.0 rpg, then its an upgrade from our dearly departed consensus four-star big man.

I like this signing. Welcome Damien! We need his toughness. If we can get another PG , the UMass decommit center and get LJ to stay, this may not be a lost year. We can still have a good team with Heron also.

I like the pick-up, especially this late in the game. Staff has known about him for a while, he played AAU ball for a squad called AAO, based out of Fayetteville, Arkansas. My guess on why his recruitment didn't pick-up much steam is because of the ACL injury, because his numbers (outside of free throw shooting) are solid. TJ must have seen enough at that recent JUCO event to believe he's fully recovered and can be effective at the P6 level.

Just watching his highlights and reading about him, he reminds me of a Hog player CMA recruited last year in Reggie Chaney, almost identical physical attributes. Sears will be a guy CMA uses at the 4 spot, and possibly the 5 in some smaller lineups. I like the thought of him and Steere being on the court at the same time making up the front court, that's going to give a really physical presence with 2 guys that can switch off and guard smaller guys as well.

Now, with 3 scholarships remaining.... I think with LJ's uncertainty the biggest need is a grad or juco guard that can score the ball. Even if LJ returns, that's still a need, IMO.

The next need is someone that can play the 5 spot. I've noticed the last few TJ follows have been big men. So a guy that fits this mold with probably be the next commit, whether it's high school or juco.

Then after you fill those 2 needs, I really think they can go in any direction, I know at Arkansas CMA use to always like to take a transfer to sit out and learn the system, maybe they use the last scholarship for that situation or if they see a high/prep guy with potential, but not ready to play just yet, they can use it to take a chance on them.
