Welcome Damien Sears

Great point Paultz. Yes, I recall a Div 1 HC's remark about McGriff being "tough as s**t."
Seems to be a pattern. Lol.
I didn't see a height measurement although there was a reference to 6'8. Nor his weight...anybody
FWIW, I saw him listed as 6-7 and 230lbs and a reference that he uses his bulk underneath.

Ok with the bulk but Jeez I'm still waiting for a nice 6'10 - 7 footer - 240 - 270 bruiser.

Don't hold your breath

Maybe Jalen Thomas...he's 6-10 but 220-230.
Sounds like a tougher Marvin Clark who cant shoot.
At that point is it really Marvin Clark? :)

He does look tough. Checks a lot of boxes for us. Needed size and someone who can score this year. Now to get the HS kid who decommitted from umass.
Told St. John's saw Damien Sears during JUCO event at recent live period.
This is the first thing that came to my mind when I opened up this thread.

Agree we could use another. We only have Steere at 6’9”. 245, but he might not be available until second semester. I too would love the former umass commit. Would give us a few big bodies up front.

Don't know what his production level will be for us but he is the type of player I would like to have 3 or 4 of on my roster.

You mean no more hearing about going through the motions? That's the one thing that absolutely drove me nuts, young men saying that. A man refuses to lose, he says nah F this, we're not losing, and if you do lose, it won't be without a fight. You don't just say oh well, we're going through the motions and quit.
You want to get rid of a losing culture, it starts with changing that mentality.

Bless CMA and his staff for getting "tough as shit" players as one coach called McGriff, bring in a few more, and work on the current players.
I'm getting a good feeling that CMA is finally that coach that we desperate were trying to find.
Not a nut ala Fran
Not a guy with a big ego like Jarvis.
Norm
No laziness like Lavin and Chris.

CMA sounds like a real standup guy and really good coach.
He'll be successful here.

Yup, Sears and McGriff were together on campus yesterday and not a peep.

Can't find much about this young man anywhere, which always concerns me. Like I said before, CMA gets a complete pass on recruits right now. He needs to fill out our roster. Welcome aboard Mr. Sears.

A pattern is developing.

New St. John’s coach Mike Anderson’s first two recruits have similarities: hard-nosed players who defend and can be described as gritty. They fit his nickname, “Iron Mike.”

First was three-star point guard John McGriff, a 5-foot-9 high school recruit known for his on-ball defense. Now comes junior college prospect Damien Sears, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward described by his former coach as a “bruiser.”

“He’s every bit of 230. He knows how to throw his weight around, use his body really well and initiates and is able to absorb contact,” said Rolando De La Barrera, Sears’ coach at Western Oklahoma State. “That’s something they were looking for at this point just taking over the job. They wanted somebody to do the dirty work inside, an enforcer type of guy.”
