Welcome back LJ Figueroa
Clearly CMA has a much better read on LJ's status than any of us. If he feels that LJ is likely (or definitely) gone, then I'm sure he's pursuing other options already. Time will tell, but if I had to place a wager right now it wouldn't be on seeing LJ in an SJU uniform again.
Hey Monte, I was leaning to the ‘he’s gone’ view as well, but the MVP award and his Instagram has me thinking maybe he’ll return.
As I said, he has to know by this point that CMA is legit with great credentials and maybe a growing realization that sitting out another year would truly suck.
That’s my glass half-full view at this point.
Bring it on.
Lol.

Is there a transfer deadline, or can they transfer over the summer also?
I don't believe there is an NCAA deadline. However, student-athletes must meet the Fall semester enrollment deadline at the school they intend to play for.

Essentially, this could drag on through the summer, but I doubt it will.
If I'm CMA I'd say: "Take as long as you'd like, but if I can fill all the ships before you make up your mind, then I will.
Just so you know."
Then if he wants to return he can return as a walk-on.
Before he walk-on, he'll transfer. He'll have enough overtures to move on before he become a walk-on here or anywhere else for that matter.
Then let him transfer. What if we have one ship to give, CMA really likes him and the recruit is his, but CMA holds off to see if LJ recommits. The recruit might say nah it's time to go to another school, then 1-2 weeks later LJ goes to say KU? We lose that recruit that CMA liked, and in the end gets screwed over because LJ went to KU.
Life's full of choices and chances. I'd rather go for a sure thing rather then a maybe.
Give me a kid that wants to be here over a maybe kid, no matter who it is.

CMA won't wait unless it's to get a chance who would go off from game one like Zion. Only wait for a kid like Anthony Davis, or Carmelo Anthony. A freshman that can win you a NC. Those are the only ones I'd wait on.

How many ships are available? If down to the last ship and he's not to thrilled with anyone left to recruit, then yeah why not wait all summer for LJ. Whatever CMA feels is right, I'm with.
I mean 17 seasons with no losing seasons, you can't go wrong with that.

Only deadline is when the school you intend to transfer to stops accepting transfers for the new semester. Wilson transferred in late August IIRC.

Doubt at this late juncture we’ll fill all the ships no less get anybody near the quality of Figueroa. If Figueroa wants to come back, it would be sheer folly to prevent him from doing so.

‘Time’ is an issue. So as the clock grinds on, CMA should eye the recruiting landscape, prioritize his needs and keep 1 open slot for Figgy—the guy deserves that.
But, IMO, the longer LJ takes, the higher priority 1-2 SGs/Wings become.
We can always use good shooters/scorers.
MA is going to leave a spot open for LJ period. Who else out there and still available can come close to matching his abilities? Even if LJ decides to leave at the last minute, that'll mean we have 12 scholarship players instead of 13.

It's a no brainer.

Me, I stand firmly on the position that: a) I have no idea what is best for anyone else and b) I have equally no idea exactly what another human being is going to decide. It is Figueroa's call and as I've stated before, if he leaves we have nobody to blame but ourselves. As Boo Harvey said, it is idiotic at this point to do anything but make it as easy and non-confrontational as possible for him to stay.

Anderson is playing this one deftly, prepare for the worst, don’t pressure or oversell and just see where chips fall.

The $64,000 Question , which was a big TV Show back in the Day, is WHY would Figgy want to sit a Year as a Transfer to another 4 year Program ? When he can play again next Season for Coach Anderson from Day 1 .

Love LJ and he's such a great player but doubt he comes back at this point. He has been visiting other programs and has not re-committed to MA. He's been hired for a while now. These things usually don't go our way and whatever worst case he's just 1 player. We are going to be bad almost certainly next year anyway with or without him. Call it negative but all signs point to him leaving. Signs include entering transfer portal, visiting other schools, not committing after MA has been here for long enough, not practicing with guys coming back, etc. It was a good sign he attended the presser, but that's about it IMO.

Western Kentucky and Arkansas are Aug. 1. I assume whatever other schools he's looking at are similar. I think we'll know a couple days after the end of St. John's spring semester, though.

Finals run from May 9 - 15. Summer school begins May 20.
It'll be what it'll be but he would thrive in CMA's system.
Guess we'll know soon.

Who took more plays off during the season?

If you're in the process of re-recruiting him, the answer's yes.

And to badly paraphrase the punch line from another back in the day TV show, The Shadow, when confronted by a perplexing question....."Figueroa knows" and his is the only vote that counts.

You make a valid point but I for one legitimately feel he was our best player/MVP.

LJ and Heron are top 10 BE talents.
Really think they can carry next years’ team far.
