Welcome back LJ Figueroa

Figgy became a fan favorite this Year and for good reason . He can play ! But , when Coaches change , Mullin , MA, GSJ , etc , some players lose the connection to the Program . It’s part of the process . I would say , Heron, knowing MA from the SEC and his style of play , likes what he sees so far and may realize another year , as a featured Player , won’t do him any harm . After all, if Mustapha hadn’t gotten the NCAA waiver , he would have sat last year and be eligible this Year . He really hasn’t lost anything by staying . Hopefully he does . Figgy would flourish here next season as well .

I remain optimistic on Figgy. From what we saw last year, CMA would seem to be a fit. Can't blame the kid for exploring his options, but I hope we see him back.

Figgy should have seen enough with the positive presence of iron Mike and staff so far. He's loved here and will be a huge part of the team and most likely a Captain. He needs to re-commit to school and start to bond with new staff. Enough already. If anyone is advising him otherwise they are harming the kid.

Just one man’s opinion: If LJ is gone, it has nothing to do with his feelings about CMA as a coach or the direction of the program.

Congrats LJ
The burning question is whether or not you will win it again next year
I sure hope so!!!!

Congrats LJ on a great 2018-2019, stay home and be part of a super exciting Johnnie team. You will miss NYC fast in places like Nebraska, Kansas, Kentucky or Storrs lol...

Smart move by the School! But well deserved as well!
Question.
Is there a transfer deadline, or can they transfer over the summer also?
I don't believe there is an NCAA deadline. However, student-athletes must meet the Fall semester enrollment deadline at the school they intend to play for.

Essentially, this could drag on through the summer, but I doubt it will.

The Figgy Drama raises very interesting questions.
Does CMA have an internal ‘deadline’ that he needs a yes or no from Figgy, to be able to sign another SF?
Or does Iron Mike recruit the best players available that fit his metrics, another PG and Big being Priorities 1 and 2, but recruits 1-2 Figgy-like SGs/SFs as well for ‘flexibility’, allowing LJ to take his time?
We shall see.

If I'm CMA I'd say: "Take as long as you'd like, but if I can fill all the ships before you make up your mind, then I will.
Just so you know."
Then if he wants to return he can return as a walk-on.

Before he walk-on, he'll transfer. He'll have enough overtures to move on before he become a walk-on here or anywhere else for that matter.

‘Time’ is an issue. So as the clock grinds on, CMA should eye the recruiting landscape, prioritize his needs and keep 1 open slot for Figgy—the guy deserves that.
But, IMO, the longer LJ takes, the higher priority 1-2 SGs/Wings become.
We can always use good shooters/scorers.

Going for back to back MVP’s
I’ll take the glass half-full view, unless he’s talking about an MVP at another program. Lol.
The kid looks good, like he lost some weight and would be even more deadly in CMAs system.

IMO the longer LJ remains uncommitted to a transfer the less likely it is he transfers.

That said, if LJ does transfer then I wish him the best. He has to do what he, and only he, believes is best for him.

I learned a long time ago not to worry about what you cannot control. if LJ does transfer from StJohn's then the world will not end.

It is however hard to believe that sitting out another season and foregoing playing in Coach Anderson's high octane offense is in his best interest.

I view it as extremely positive as do all the people that commented on Instagram. Love this kid, his overall game, his effort level. He can get to the next level with more direction and hard work. Hopefully it is as he’s indicating, and it seems that is what he’s hinting to.

Well, ya neva know but it sure sounds like he’s sending ‘positive’ vibes.
It could be a mix of LJ seeing CMAs solid character and creds, knowing he’ll thrive in Mike’s system, and dreading having to sit out a year.
We shall see.

Clearly CMA has a much better read on LJ's status than any of us. If he feels that LJ is likely (or definitely) gone, then I'm sure he's pursuing other options already. Time will tell, but if I had to place a wager right now it wouldn't be on seeing LJ in an SJU uniform again.
