Welcome back LJ Figueroa

Well, now that we know where he is, does anyone know what he is going to do?

Strange as it may sound to some, there are direct flights from LGA to Bowling Green, Kentucky where WKU is.

* Arkansas appears to be in a three-team triangle vying for the services of St. John's sophomore-transfer L.J. Figueroa (6-6 wing), who visited Western Kentucky on Wednesday, indicated he could visit Arkansas within the week, and may end up staying put at St. John's.

The key piece to the puzzle very well could be Hilltoppers assistant coach Marc Hsu, who has previous ties to Figueroa and who also has a reported interest in potentially joining the unsettled St. John's assistant coaching staff. If Hsu remains at Western Kentucky, Figueroa may transfer and join him there. If Hsu gets a job on new Red Storm head coach Mike Anderson's forming staff in New York, Figueroa may decide to remain at the Big East school. And there may be some mutual interest between Musselman and Hsu working together at Arkansas.

Figueroa averaged 14.4 points (51.3% field goals including 38.3% from 3), 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.7 assists in his only season at St. John's in '18-19 after starring at Odessa (TX) juco in '17-18. He reportedly also has interest in Georgia and Miami.

If this really ends up being a situation where we would have to hire Hsu to keep Figueroa, i say let them both walk. I suspect CMA feels the same way. Shady business...

this 'report' like many other things on the internet, is a collection of social media comments and rumors. so just because it's on a news site doesn't make this any more true...

that being said, LJ is receiving some really bad advise. his 'mentor' himself said on twitter LJ loves St. John's.... LJ obviously loves his teammates... his family gets to see him... and now gets to play for a proven coach....

I think if we take a step back and look at what common sense says, it seems as if he won't be here. Put the airport analytics, twitter following, smile analysis to the side. If he wanted to be here, the decision would have been made already. At this point, all we can do is expect the worse, and hope for the best.

And if he was sure he didn’t want to be here wouldn’t that decision have been made too? We can be sure CMA will have as good a shot as anyone to recruit LJ. I’ll live with the results but do realize the potential for a good first year (and my own personal enjoyment of watching him compete), does rely heavily on him staying at sju. In CMA I’ll trust.

I don’t disagree with you at all but Figueroa is a grown young man by my standards and bad advice is only bad if you take it.

I would take this with a grain of salt.

Hopefully this doesn't drag on too long and LJ makes the choice he wants to make.

Let MA hire his staff as he sees fit. Hsu may be a great coach but it would be very short sighted to hire him because he's going to bring a player{s} along with him. MA has to establish a comfort level with any of the new prospective ACs first and foremost.

Let me get this never ending soap opera straight - acknowledging that none of us seem to know the "real facts" as opposed to the "fake news" etc. I have no clue.

1.LJ apparently loves St. Johns.
2.LJ has already adjusted to New York.
3.Lj has already adjusted to and played with his St. John's teammates..
4.His family gets to see him play - here not there wherever ":there " is.
5.He will undoubtedly start next year and be a key cog in our wheels to success.
5.LJ is already a well respected star here.
6.if he transfers he will have to adjust and start all over again.
7.if he transfers he will have to sit out a year.
8.if he transfers he will not be able to have his family attend games as much.
9.if he transfers he will no longer have foolish posters like me obsessing about what he is doing lol

hmmm, let me balance that equation :)

all the best

As you and many on the Board have said General, it defies logic why Figgy would transfer to WKU or Arkansas and have to sit out a year, which he would have to do by most interpretations of the NCAA transfer policy even these days.
Let's hope he realizes that as well, but I am worried about Hsu's role in LJ's thinking.
Maybe, as one poster said, Iron Mike told Figgy to visit WKU and other places(?), but talk with him at the end of the process?
We shall see.

So he's getting a few free trips, feeling appreciated for his talent and getting some nice attention from a few big programs and a few mid-majors with historically solid programs. Sounds like due diligence to me. Nothing wrong with that.

Wouldn't you think Heron would want Fiq to stay. Have to think he might follow if LJ leaves. Can't see him staying around playing with a makeshift lineup. Got to believe he has already spoken to Fiq.

Heron could still leave to play overseas. Never heard an announcement that he was staying.

Yeah, good points Jack.
I have no clue how the LJ drama will play out, but I am nervous about Hsu's influence and bracing for the worst.
And we should applaud Iron Mike for seemingly putting the brakes on Hsu as an AC here because of this 'episode'.
That said, Mustapha is 1 smart kid.
IF he thought he would've gotten drafted by the NBA this year even in the 2nd round, he would've declared.
And I think he would've declared to go 'pro' overseas, if he thought he had a good shot to make a good team.
I think he stays and buys into CMA's system, hoping that, if need be, TJC can pull a Figgy 'clone' from JUCO.
Lol.
We shall see.
