Welcome back LJ Figueroa

Some of you are ridiculous. He’s done nothing wrong. If he decides to stick around can’t wait to hear you say how much you love him.

Everybody loves Figueroa. I think some don’t like the fact that he’s looking elsewhere. I think it’s fine and understand that with a staff change, sometimes things don’t work out. That said, I think the slater comment coupled with the Hsu connection and possible differences got some inflamed. I’m not sure it’s warranted but it riled some up.

If you don't mind me asking, how did Hsu's name start getting linked to CMA in the first place? From the outside looking in, and just knowing how CMA is, Hsu seemed like the opposite of the type of guy CMA would look for. Was Hsu a guy the previous staff was looking at or something? Or a guy that AD liked?

Also, for those that are familar with Hsu... what else does Hsu bring to the table other than some highly rated recruits? Can he actually coach? Does he know how to scout and find players that can fit coaches playstyle? Because Western Kentucky has underachieved year in and year out since Stansbury has been there with his current staff. They by far had the best talent in the C-USA this season and almost every media outlet picked them to make the NCAA tournament and win conference and they didn't even make the NIT and had player issues all season long, one player even quit in the middle of the season. Seems like the type of guys they have been bringing in at Western Kentucky, have nice star ratings, but they also have some character issues and guys that either the coaches can't get them to play team ball or guys that don't want to play team ball. That's the opposite of what CMA is about. He's going to focus team oriented guys that fit his system first and foremost and get the most out of those guys no matter what their star rating is.
Is Scotty Thurman considered a good coach and recruiter, outside of Arkansas?
Don’t know much about him either, looked him up, He left Arkansas, championship team, early to go to the NBA but didn’t get drafted. Played overseas. Only been coaching since 2016. Some Arkansas fan on JJ said he’s a good recruiter and good at developing shooters.

Scotty has only been an assistant for a couple years now. He is probably one of the most famous razorbacks of all time by hitting the shot to win the national title. He has been very active in recruiting lately... was the lead recruiter for Reggie Chaney (4-star out of Nevada), that's probably his most notable recruit.

With that said, he's not really known for his recruiting, his value comes as a shooting coach. I know he worked with Isiah Joe this year who broke the 3 point record at Arkansas this year, and tied the SEC record with Jamal Murray. I doubt Scotty comes to New York though, he's all Arkansas. I know it probably really hurt him that they didn't retain him. He'll probably do something locally now and maybe look for a high school head coaching job or something like that. But, you never say never, if CMA sees value in bringing him on, he may can convince him to come up here.

His name was thrown out there by some posters as a potential AC prior to MA’s hiring. Has some history in the area.
Don’t think anyone is married to him as the AC. Just someone whose name was prominent amon* the names being bandied about.

I don't think people should get out ahead of their skis on LJ. He's making a business decision and is out collecting information to make that decision, as he should (and as you would want him to if he were your kid). I assume that one of the things he will factor in is that going someplace else will require him to sit a year, which I would think is a pretty significant factor.

On a related note, the same thing applies to Matt A - when he was here, he was doing his job, and now that he's at Nebraska, he's doing his job there. You can't take it personally, it's just business. That's what college sports is, for those who missed the memo.

Unless you watch Billions where business is almost always personal. ;)

In reality it always ends up being personal. If one leaves unexpectedly where he was treated well for a place where it is a gamble you question his motive. You always give a new staff a chance to connect. This is the me first generation so it is becoming a norm but 99% of the Figgy's of college basketball will not play in the NBA. Looking at options is fine but making a so called career decision is bogus in his case. He is not an NBA player. Going to 4 different colleges is not going to change that. He will be a very good overseas player. You can attend Podunk college and still play overseas. Losing a year of eligibility is just bad decision making PERIOD.

Most recently, the NCAA has been handing out transfer waivers like candy on Halloween. It seems that they are accepting head coaching changes as a valid reason to honor requests for a waiver. If LJ decides to leave, he may not have to sit out next season.

Are there really examples of upperclassmen getting waivers for coaching changes? I am not aware of any.
