I would be shocked if he came back. His game is very translatable to the NBA. Some team is going to fall in love with his shooting.
Disagree, his limited size will dictate playing wing and imo he is just not quick enough at this time to guard at that spot. I think he returns, but been wrong before.
Do we think he's received a commitment from the staff to play SF exclusively to prepare him for the draft next year? Because if not, does staying another year do anything if he's just going to be in Europe or China anyway?

That would be my biggest concern.

Not sure what assurances he may or may not have received from the staff  but it seems to me we will start Soriano at the 5 and Wheeler at the 4 so Champ would be the 3.
I love that front line, best one we have had in a long time.

I agree 100% RMN and with Champ playing the 3, all the reason to return to St John's to  further hone his craft at the position he will be asked to play in the NBA and his improve his stock in the 2022 draft.

I know for a fact there are some (not all) very reputable draft experts that have him as a borderline first round pick. I agree with the defensive concerns, but is he really going to improve his physical limitations by returning to college? I think if some team falls in love with his  shooting ability, which is a hot commodity in the NBA right now, he will get taken probably in the early 2nd.

In a perfect world I'd love him to come back and improve his draft stock, but how much can he really improve it? I don't think he's getting any quicker, or growing by playing one more year in college. He'd also then be risking if he were injured, or had a subpar year. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's gone.

Where have you seen him listed as borderline first round?

All I know is that some "experts" said Olajuwon had poor lateral movement, bad footwork, and would be a bust in the NBA.

Some experts said Pitt's Jerome Lane would be a poor man's Charles Barkley.

Then there are guys like Scott May, who was an NBA disappointment after being the best college player.

Most of the time you just never know till they are playing against the biggest and the best.

I don't watch much NBA anymore, but out of curiosity, who do you guys see as a comp for Julian at the NBA level?

I see Julian as having similar game to Paul George due to his shooting ability, though not sure if Julian is athletic enough at this time for the NBA.

Eventually, Jae Crowder

I think a less bulkier Crowder is a decent comp. Or Torian Craig on the same team.

Paul George is stretching things IMO. Hard to project how kids develop, but I don’t see JC getting to the athleticism that someone like George has with his defensive versatility, shot making and creating skills.

He already plays SF here.  CMA runs 3 guards, 2 forwards.  That spot he's at is essentially the SF spot, and the other forward spot is either a PF or C.

But regardless of that, NBA teams don't care about what position you play in college/high school/overseas etc. If you're quick, athletic, can guard guards, and your college coach plays small ball and has you at the 4, a team is not going to be like "Oh, we can't draft him because his college coach didn't play him at the 3."  Scouts know what these kids can do inside and outside and what their potential is.

Man, Paul George has 2 inches on Julian and handles like a lead guard. Think that is too much of a ceiling for JC.

I see something like the Morris twins if he is able to eventually become an nba player. Wing hybrid who can stretch the floor.

I see a comparable player in current Brooklyn Net, (and our old nemesis from Georgetown) Jeff Green. Above average 6’8”perimeter forward, that has been with 10 teams during a 14 year career.  He does all of the little things right…which is why he has lasted so long.

Here's my thing. When you look at most Draft Boards you see 3 Big East players projected to be drafted: Booknight, David Duke, and Robinson-Earl. What does each of those have that Julian doesn't? Elite athleticism, projectable on where they fit at the next level, explosiveness/quickness.

Julian reminds me of a shorter poor man's version of Tim Duncan.

The guards I agree, I don’t really think JRE is a superior athlete at the forward spot. Definitely bigger and stronger.

If we're doing the comparison thing, I'll go with Allan Houston.  No a speedster, could take it to the rim a little bit, but really killed you from deep.
