We be dancin'!!!!!!!!

St. John’s: The Johnnies are all but in the tournament after beating Georgetown convincingly on Saturday. They won the two games they needed to win this week, and now have five top 50 wins and a 9-7 record against the top 100. The only reason they’re not a lock yet? They still have to play at Marquette, and St. John’s has a penchant for not playing up to their ability away from home. But even with a loss at Marquette and at Villanova in the finale, the Johnnies still might be in with a loss in the first round of the Big East tournament.

If we lose out, (Nova, Marquette, and 1st round) at the very best we will be at the mercy of the committee, who never favor negative momentum).. For my money we still have work to do, but control our destiny. Go Johnnies.

Keep that momentum going Johnnies!

As long as we win at Marquette the rest will sort itself out. The committee has their personal favorites and are the ultimate what-have-you-done-for-me-lately entity. We certainly don't want to go up there flat and get shelled, and then risk losing at Nova and the BET. Need to take as much doubt out of the committee's decision-making process as possible.

Whoops Beast, didn't see your post. Pretty much just wrote the same thing as you.

Found it amusing (?) that Kerith Burke, during tonight's late-night wrap-up on SNY TV, stated "it might be generous" to consider St. John's an NCAA tournament team. It might be generous! And although SNY did give our game against Georgetown longer coverage, including sound bites from Lavin, they saw fit to open with coverage of Syracuse's embarrassing, crushing loss to Duke ahead of our game against Georgetown. Unbelievable! On the plus side, the anchor woman on Time Warner's New York 1 (Cheryl Willis?), just commented that she hoped St. John's would go "all the way" in the NCAAs. Hope it's the start of a citywide buzz.

SNY is a joke. The last time I watched was when they were disparaging Jeter for some petty thing at the end of last year's baseball season. It was so ridiculous and agenda-driven that I vowed I would never spend a minute on that channel again.

To paraphrase Dan Akroyd on SNL Weekend Update, "Kerith you ignorant slut........"

I stumble upon SNY while checking for weather and traffic on 61. It's surprising that they are still around.

There have been a growing legion of us, even during the darkest days of 0-3 and 3-6, that preached hope and patience, of taking one game at a time. You can't hit a 9 run home run, and you can't win 5 games in one game. Thankfully, Lavin and these kids took that approach to crawl out of the hole they dug for themselves, and crawled out one meaningful minute after another.

They could have folded and abandoned ship, but didn't. They had more hope in themselves than all but a tiny foolish number did here. After 9 games, some proclaimed that we might not win another game - and it didn't look like the foolworthy proposition it was.

Like any worthwhile machine, almost every moving part has been necessary. Even as Rysheed played horribly during the 11-1 start, it was clear that if we were going to have tournament ambitions that he was going to have to play a major role down the line - and has!

Great teams overcome adversity.

Harrison's injury, days after being named a Wooden candidate, should have destroyed any chance of being where we are now. He didn't allow himself to be sidelined, and refused to blame the injuries (leg then shoulder then other leg) as contributing to his poor play.

CO for his part could have erupted after having his minutes reduced to nurse his gimpy ankle. After all, he exploded in the BET because he was requisitely benched due to foul trouble last year.

Other factors, but for another post.

We are at the cusp of a bid. Even some of Lavin's ardent detractors, here (won't name them) are admitting that he deserves a ton of credit for guiding the team this far.

Winning is fun. An energized Garden is too. I'd say let's rewind and play it over again. Then again, after all the travails I'm just happy to be where we are now and look forward to what can be.

Amen !!!!! Lavin and the staff deserve credit for holding this team together after the poor start to the Big East season. Not every coach would have been able to do that. I have been watching St Johns basket ball for over 50 years and yesterday was one of my proudest moments. To see these kids get recognized on Senior day and then come out and play their asses off while beating Georgetown, it don't get no better than that.
D'Angelo had an off day shooting but it did not take away his enthusiasm, he was on the bench cheering hard for his team and when he was on the floor found other ways to contribute.
It has been my pleasure to watch these seniors grow and mature over the past four years as players, but more important as young men who have been fine representatives of St Johns University.

I will be sitting on expedia March 15th. I just hope its not the West bracket.

If we win next game , yes

We are in
UM NO. Min 3 games left have to win 1 of those

I disagree. We are in and now it's just seeding. Worse case scenario would be a play in game.
We will win at least 1, but if you think we can now lose to Marquette, Nova and in BET and get in going in with 3 game losing streak you are out of your mind

Lunardi would disagree. We are in!! Lock it up! Just a question of seeding. I still want to win the Big East tourney for these seniors.

What Lunardi means is if they stopped the season right now and picked the teams, we are in. I don't dispute that at all. But there is still 3 games left min and we need one of them.

Incredibly we are just 14 days away from selection Sunday.

At least the west bracket has two attractive venues (Seattle and Portland) that have direct flights. If you have to change planes some of the closer destinations will take longer to get to, and you can get jammed up by delays.

For your benefit a re-post. Fares will be much higher with a 3 or 4 day advance purchase:

• March 19 & 21 - Second & Third Rounds
o Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, FL March 18-22 flight lowest $247 RT
o KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, KY March 18-22 flight lowest $327 RT
o Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh, PA March 18-22 flight lowest $284 RT
o Moda Center, Portland, OR March 18-22 flight lowest $647 RT (redeye home)
• March 20 & 22 - Second & Third Rounds
o Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, NC March 19-22 flight lowest $202 RT
o Nationwide Arena, Columbus, OH March 19-22 flight lowest $439 RT
o
o CenturyLink Center Omaha, Omaha, NE March 19-22 flight lowest $400 RT
o
o KeyArena, Seattle, WA March 19-22 flight lowest $542 RT

I just came back from Silicon Valley and it took me 7 hours to get there. Coming home was much easier. Arranging such a trip with those travel times will be tough. I have a ton of points on United/JetBlue so I am hoping I can use that.

Column II: Johnnies rapidly evolving into a team that's not only an NCAA team, but a possible NCAA forcehttp://nyp.st/17GRWMp #sjubb

Mike Vaccaro @MikeVacc
That's a 33-point turnaround from 11 days ago for the Johnnies. And that should also be a slot, for sure, in the field of 68. #sjubb

We're not going to be penalized for losing to two top 25 RPI teams (Nova and Providence) on the road/neutral court games. The Marquette loss on the road would sting the most since they're considered a bad loss. Would that be enough to take us out of the tourney? That would all depend on how the rest of the bubble shook out, however I'm feeling pretty secure right now.

Why get so upset over a sentence that one little talking head just said? This group is playing better than it ever has, during the most important month for resume' building. Everyone else, has SJU in, with a bullet.

Just enjoy the win. I am certain SNY will follow SJU all the way to the tourney. If things work really well for us, both Syracuse (a definite) and UConn (bubble) will not be tournament bound. That would be glorious.

No he doesn't, because we were in his bracket for over a week now (maybe 2). When he said if we beat Georgetown and Xavier we'd be in, he already had us in the bracket along with nearly all other bracketolgists.
