@Villanova, Sat., Jan. 6, 1p, F0X

My only slight disagreement was saying Neptune's won as much as Norm did. Norm went 24-82 at Queens College, Mahoney went 16-62 at Manhattan College.
I was just saying that if we are going to call 16-16 / 8-10 / 8th place "winning" then the only way we can call it that is if the comparison is Norm at Queens - .500 is definitely winning compared to what he did. I should probably leave sarcasm to Main Man, that's his area of excellence.

Otis - I'm not sure whether the post-Neptune year at Fordham is a credit to players Neptune recruited or an indictment of his coaching, I don't follow Fordham enough (96 or otherwise) to know.

Kranmars - to borrow a line from a movie involving a Fredo - just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Not my intention to be here all that regularly but for whatever reason I have a bit of spare time this week. It's good to see you, too!

Urgo hit the jackpot getting Khalid Moore to come in for his 5th year from Ga Tech, he complimented Neptune's top transfer Quisenberry well.

PS if you got time on your hands you should come back to Redmen.com FF. I don't think Amase's heart was in it. Am I right Patrick? Or was it strategic starting Burrow and Andrews all year while on the IR? ;)

But they are going to use Dixon to pull out Joel and Joel sucks in space. Why not let our 6’4 guards deal with him on the perimeter instead? Alleyne and Jenkins are very good at the top of the zone. So is Taylor. This isn’t the typical Nova master class shooting team.
A Jenkins shout out? :)

Fordham went 16- 16 in 202- 22 with Neptune

Fordham went 25- 8 in 2022-23 the year after Neptune departed.
I don't follow recruiting in Queens so I certainly don't follow it in the Bronx. I assume Neptune brought in Quisenberry, not the Kc reliever, and he was very much a generational talent at Fordham as Horne, Patterson, Greene and Jenkins were/are at Sj. Urgo certainly owes him a large debt of gratitude. I agree with you guys that his Jay Wright connection was as much or more of a factor in his hire as his one breakout season at Fordham.

Neptune is off to a bad start at Villonova. I dont see it getting much better. Finishing last in the big 5 is an outright embarrassment for nova.

Jay should have recommended claxton for the job. I am glad he didnt.
He is the reason why I said in the preseason that we will finish ahead of them. I don't think he is a good coach, certainly not as good as ours. I guess we will find out soon enough

If they beat us Saturday they would be 4-0 in Big East play. Not bad.

Wins @Creighton, and neutral court wins over Texas Tech, Memphis and UNC. Coming last in the Big 5 was bad, but it doesn't tell the full story of how their season has gone.

Started out 2-5 in conference last year, already 3-0 this year. Looks like improvement to me

He took over a team that had 2 winning seasons that century to date so that's the point of comparison. Would have done better if the previous year's center hadn't transferred out 3 weeks later. ;)
On the flip side, Neptune took over a program that had 10 consecutive winning seasons while coming off a final 4 (returning 5 key players plus a blue chip freshman) and proceeded to produce a non-winning season.

Love this post lawmanfan but the movie buff in me has to point out that the iconic Fredo was long dead by the time Michael said that line in GF3

Neptune did not do a good job last year, but I attribute so much of their struggles to not having Moore for much of the season, and honestly no one talks about this but I thought Cam Whitmore was probably the most disappointing pro prospect Nova has had. Such a me-first guy and truly seemed like he tanked the team chemistry with his piss poor attitude.

Nova will probably game plan to turn Dixon loss as they did against Creighton with Kalkenbrenner (?spelling) where dixon took his most shots of the year-21, and made 12.

let's see if we get any better with Rick's matchup zone as we have to depend the 3. Nova takes about 50% of their shots from 3.

I noticed in the game last night late in game Xavier was able able to drive to the hoop and for the overall game they scored a lot in the paint plus all those; something we are comfortable doing.

Nova seems to avoid full court pressure and on ball pressure, last night no steals and T/O-ed Xavier 8 times while we T/O-ed Xavier 18 times and had 6 steals. These are 2 things that stand out (besides the score) in Nova and us versus Xavier. Hope we go with a lot of full court pressure as Xavier's pressure late in game seemed to make Nova "uncomfortable"

Geez I thought the game was at night and I was gonna have to VCR it. My brother in law's 60th Sat night. I'm pumped it's at 1:00!!

I'm putting money on the Johnnies, which I rarely ever do. Maybe even on the money line. That's how good I feel about our chances on Saturday.

Any of you guys been to Cena 081 in Westbury? That's where the party is.

Regardless of why he did not do a good job last year, the point is he went 17-17 thus the jury is still out on him.

Okay but context is important when analyzing how a coach is doing. His best player was injured much of the season. His best recruit was a douche. Sometimes it happens.

I am definitely going to judge him more on how Year 2 and 3 end up, not so much year 1

Time will tell. In my opinion he has tons of work to do just to reach Steve Lappas level.

VCR it? Are you going to listen to your 8 tracks in the car on the way to the party?

Steve Lappas didn’t reach the tournament until year 3. So if Neptune makes it this year he’s surpassed what lappas accomplished early on
