You know who was the first guy to leap off the bench to celebrate the dagger 3 by Brady and who Brady turned to scream at - his biggest booster Wilcher. Says a ton about Simeon.

Wilchers day will come. I think in a cameo he threw the 1st half alley oop to Zuby.

Would love that these day become the core in a year or two.

Zuby no stiff as was hibted at here. Two ferocious blocks and a slam in 4 1st half minutes. Yea he was overmatched by Dixon in a brief 2nd half run but he is rapidly improving.

Sunday monday Happy Days.
From today's NY post, Brady on Simeon:

I would say it’s a surprise just given the way the trajectory of the season was going for myself,” Dunlap said. “At the same time, I never lost my confidence in who I am as a player. Me and [fellow freshman Simeon Wilcher] — that’s like my best friend right now — and every time we didn’t play, we would go back to the dorm and talk about if we were in the game what we could’ve done to help the team.

“He’s just my guy and he’s helped me a ton with my confidence. I’ve helped him with his. He’s always kept me ready.”

St. John’s is 11-4 and tied for first place in the Big East following a win at Villanova. We recap the win, the obvious importance of Daniss Jenkins and Joel Soriano, discuss Brady Dunlap’s new career high, explain how we are witnessing “The Rick Pitino Effect” and implore the fans to show up on Wednesday at MSG. This team deserves and has earned your support, time to be there and help be the difference.

Jenkins I totally get the shot selection thing but also I noticed when he drained 1 the whole bench up cheering. Obviously aside from the coach he has the respect of his players. My dad taught me a long time ago in life and in sports it doesn’t matter if they like you or don’t like you but they gotta respect you because in sports if they don’t respect you then you’ve lost the team.

When Jenkins first started playing this summer that first week Panther was at a practice and texted or called me and said “ Mike we are in good hands “. For me that’s all I need to here

We roll With Jenkins and let the other guys feed off his boundless energy and effort ( because while not in a stat sheet that sets a tone for the other players )

Most important let’s go out and kick Providence ass
I remember when Panther said that about Jenkins. He said this team runs so much better with Jenkins running the show once he finished summer school at Iona and was able to join in.

Thanks!!! Great listen.

To add to what Panther adds here and is so appreciated. He said right from the beginning how Brady has in the gym range from what he was able to watch during practices. Really appreciate the insider insight he is able to provide when he passes along info.

It may not be the time to say this but he is 100% right. Bask in victory but strive to do better. DJ needs to do better
Why don’t you call Pitino and tell him your thoughts about Jenkins ?

I’m sure he would be eager to hear your opinion on a Player that he has already designated as his chosen one .

Dr Bodkin, I was hoping to hear whether or not you hung around with Ben Casey and Dr Kildare during your Medical / Acting career ?

I haven't posted about the game yet because I am still taking it all in. I can't post during games anymore because they are so enjoyable that I can't miss a minute and I need to unwind during the breaks. Winning easily in Villanova was a big milestone for us to clear. I am looking forward now only and not back. The losses to Michigan, Dayton, BC and even UCONN are in the rearview mirror.

As Adoraz pointed out we are at this current moment solidly in the tournament. The analytics going forward also say we should make it but that is irrelevant. There are 16 games to go and they are 16 individual events. 16 chances to prove we are an NCAA team and then there is the Big East tournament to prove it some more.

For the program to gain momentum it would be nice to be ranked and beat ranked opponents. More importantly is getting to the NCAA tournament avoiding a play in game and making some noise. A trip to the Sweet Sixteen would be great but I can't get ahead of myself. Its been hard for me to get to games recently but I was there at Hofstra and will definitely be there for the Marquette game as my friends kids will be playing at halftime. I really want to be there Wednesday and I will try my best to get there. If I can't make a game please make it for me. We need fans in the seats to help us win games. Go St. John's. Enjoy your Sunday!

Andrew great post but , ahem , Kranmars is trying to enjoy his Sunday but , there is something keeping him from that .

I’m sure you know what it is . And , I don’t want to go overboard but , take it under consideration .

Not a negative post after such a great win but was just wondering why Taylor's point production is always so low. Is it that he does not look for his shot? When he takes a three he usually makes them. I t sense that Brady’s emergence may have something to do with Taylor’s lack of scoring. Any thoughts?

Funny you should say Dr. Bodkin. That was my father. He was a medical doctor. I hung around with him. He was the smartest person that I've ever known, and the best father anyone could ever have.

Best part Back page of the ny post and Newsday

He is getting better every game !! As he is learning to play point he embarrassed your boy Alexander in the 2nd half. The other Iona guard had 23 against Kentucky tonight.
He is a baller
You know, it’s getting tedious to harp on Jenkins at this point. He’s not perfect, but he brings a lot to the table. He needs to shoot the 3 less, BUT, he’s been very good at key moments and generally takes care of the ball and allows the offense to move. Better than we’ve seen for most of the last decade or more. Let’s give the young man his credit and acknowledge he’s a key part of what’s developing into a very good, deep and well rounded group who could be on the verge of a great run.

DJ has made huge strides from November to now. We should be able to acknowledge that. He still took some bewildering shots yesterday -- that is okay to acknowledge as well. I'm confident in Pitino's judgment (everyone should) that his shots in practice will eventually translate to the game, and even more confident that Jenkins will continue to make strides.

Regardless of where you are in this debate, the most important thing in the long-term is Wilcher's development as a solid backup PG. He looked a lot better yesterday.
