A 13 point loss (and yes I know it wasn't really that close) on the road at the #4 team in the country is by no means a disaster. My upside hope for this game was a 12 point loss, the downside was 24. End result was fine. Also forced 23 TOs, after high teens against X and Marquette. That ballhawking is becoming a trademark, along with the blocks.

Why is Lovett on the bench? Why didn't he start? I didn't expect us to win this, but was hoping to at least make it competitive, which cannot happen with our PG on the bench. WTF Is Mullin thinking??

Does anybody read my posts???

Yes, BOO. you said cramping Before the game and he needed to stretch and get loose.. Other wise, he could pull a muscle . But, we should still get a official statement.

Good luck with that. From what I've seen , this staff has been less than transparent with injuries.

I have absolutely no connections or inside sources. I can only report what I see. I was a few feet away and he was visibly limping. When the game started, he was lying on the baseline getting stretched out and seemed to be in discomfort. I've observed this a number of times during games.

The trainer was doing that during warm-ups for the second half against quete.

Yeah, I've seen him getting stretched out during games when he comes out a handful of times. He clearly has some minor issue, but based on Zach B's report, it sounds like it wasn't related to the decision for him not to start.

"Coaches Decision" was in quotation marks. Mullin is not stupid. You don't bring your best player off the bench for some sort of strategy. From what I have heard Lovett would not be able to play for Tom Coughlin, he is not what you would call prompt. Give credit to Mullin for not embarrassing Lovett and disguising it as "coaches decisions"

Prior to this season the key to SJU becoming a more competitive team was Ponds and LoVett having enough talent to earn major minutes over the returning back court players.Accomplished.The key for SJU to compete with the top big east teams next year is that Clark and Simon are good enough to earn major minutes over Yakwe and Ellison.

I thought they needed to win this game/could win this game.

They now have to refocus for the final six regular season games and then try to make noise in the BET.

You should probably "refocus" your expectation level, seems as though you are thinking this is a top-5 BE team and an NCAA contender and that just isn't the case. Just look to win a couple more games this year, keep making progress on the floor in learning how to play together, compete, and win games. The rest is not all that important. If we can do that, keep the key contributors, and add a couple of pieces then next season we can make some noise.

Greetings from Aruba - someone from this site has to go :cheer:

Excellent point LMF
Solid "D"
SJU is moving along and there will be times circa 2017-8-9 when we beat a #4 team

When running on all cylinders, with a complete team, when can compete with most any team in the country. Even without much of a front court. When we don't bring it, we are capable of losing to most anyone(IE Delaware, LIU, etc) in the country. We needed to come out of the box strong yesterday. Always a bad omen when the game starts and Lovett is on the bench. Then Shamorie immediately gets in foul trouble and is basically non-existent. Game over. It's a testament to the kids, and a boon for CC and MM, that we made 2 pretty strong runs after it looked like Nova was going to completely blow us off the court. But too little, too late. If the entire team returns-and that's a BIG if, I'm hopeful that they can grow from these kinds of experiences. Time will tell.

Coming out strong seems prudent, considering we have too often gotten smacked in first half of games only to try to dig out of a big hole. Yesterday the game was over In first half, as was that debacle in DC v Georgetown. Part of progress should be staying competitive out of gate, not getting moral victories by cutting huge margins. Hopefully we win several games remaining at home and truly compete on the road. That will set right tone for next season assuming we also add pieces & keep key players in place.

The biggest problem was we fell too far behind early. Not unusual for us.We have to learn to play w intensity out of the gate. Not dissaponted, didn't expect a W. Team made them work in the second half. As long as we see progress and improvement. That is all you can ask. Can't make judgement after 1 game against one of the top teams in the country.

I mean do you not want to win the Big East Tournament? Should they not want to? Should I not root for it? Can I live?

Lawman is pro choice so he believes that choice belongs to you and not someone else

I'm pretty sure everyone on this board wants to win every single game. That's totally different than expecting to win games when we are not even close to having a chance. That's just unrealistic. When you have unrealistic expectations, you're setting up for disappointment. Expect the worst, and hope for the best.

Agree. And along with the steals we probably average 80 points a game. Just think next year with Clark in for Ellison we will be stronger offensively. Owens will also be much better. We're going to need our point guard, Lovett, to become a leader to control things, especially early in the game.

I think one piece at a time means we're going to need our pg Lovett to return next year.

Mullin's quote, "We got pounded on the boards again." Well, I guess then we can't wait to play against Delgado. Yakwe has to use his jumping talent to "rebound." And if he doesn't then play Williams who at least will challenge Delgado.

Agree that at this point Williams provides much more than Yakwe does, but it's a bit of a catch 22 for CM. If he doesn't play Yakwe then he never has a chance to develop, and he likely leaves after this year. At the same time, I'm sure he wants to put the team on the floor that gives us the best chance of winning. He's not in a good position. My sense is that he's trying to balance the 2.

Amed, Ellison, Yakwe are just not division 1 basketball players....they are killing this team.

and Mussini is much worse the Ellison and Ahmed, so what does that tell ya

Ahmed's averaging 13 points, five rebounds and and assist an a half a game and is shooting 40 percent from three. He's scored in double figures in nine straight and over his last six is averaging 16 points and 6 rebounds. That tells ya that we could use a couple more players who aren't D1 basketball players, we might win a game or two.

Mussini I get the feeling will be playing in Palermo next year. I just hope he doesn't miss his flight.
