Villanova Game

Last place, 0-3 with two home losses. Peaking in February Part II perhaps.
Gonna be hard to do that when you only play 6 guys.

I was being sarcastic, sorry.

Is it Lavin's fault that half of our fouls came on ticky tacky plays that had no impact on the play?

It is his fault that this game was over when pointer, who isn't even a forward naturally, fouls out of the game because he is our only tall player after obekpa.

It is his fault that Christian jones and Amar aren't even options cause he decided against giving them time to develop against mid majors in OOC.

It is his fault that he is wasting away DLos senior season because he decided against giving him some help on the recruiting trail.

Lavin moved Pointer to a forward this year, and he has been playing the best basketball of his career. Do you want to criticize him for that too?

That has nothing to do with anything jumbo. We have seniors that would chop off their own testicles to play in a damn NCAA tournament game but they've been failed by Steve Lavin. Spin it any way you want but that is how it is

If they wanted to play in an NCAA tournament so bad, then maybe they should have worked harder in the offseason. Maybe Dom should have developed a decent jump shot, maybe Phil should have learned how to dribble. Maybe Branch should have developed any type of offensive game. DLo is doing about all he can, and I have no problem with him.....

No doom and gloom. This loss just shows what we lack. Nothing our players could've done about this. They played their hearts out.

If DLo and this team make the tournament, it will be despite the bonehead that decided not to field a team other than the 6. SJU took the lead with 15 minutes left in 2nd half, while their starters were resting up for the home stretch.

You saw it when this game started, we can play with anyone in the nation, but without a bench it is hard. As we all saw.

Season not over. But a blueprint on how to beat us was printed tonight.

Quoting u.
Season not over.
Thx.

But we can learn from it too. Right?
I hope.

+ 19 differential on the boards speaks volumes. At best we will go 1-4 in BE for first five games possibly 0-5. Don't think this team has the depth to get out of that hole like they did last year. We'll see.

Did you watch the 1st half of the game!? Despite the deficiencies you mention, this team can play and outplay a top 10 team. But we wore down. Why!??????!?? Is it that hard for you to figure out ? Next your gonna blame Phil Greene for poor recruiting.

The only hope we have for next year is if Jordan gets his head on straight and stays and Obepka stays also.

By my count, even if Jordan and Obepka return next season to play with lightweights Christian jones, Amar, Felix, Joey DeLaRosa, Henderson and unknowns ADR, and Samir Doughty, StJohn's will have only 9 players, being 4 short of a full D1 roster.

With that returning cast you could not blame Jordan and Obepka for not returning.

StJohn's 2015- 16 roster
Christian Jones,
Amar,
Felix Balamou,
Joey DeLaRosa,
Jay Henderson
ADR,
Samir Doughty,

#24 St. John's just lost to #8 Villanova at a rocking MSG in a game that was one of the best and most exciting games I've seen in years from anyone for the first 30 minutes. You've made your point very clear in every other thread you post in, but this is a game thread. Ban me if you must, but you are breaking forum rules yourself here by not sticking to the topic of the thread.

But it's good to see you posting...didn't see much of you when we were winning.

Great effort tonight from our team. Keep fighting.

We can root for DLO to put up as many individual stats as possible. The team's lack of depth, will continue to be exploited by most of the teams in our Conference.. It's great to root for your team and be a fan but, in 1 week of the league season, we are again looking up at every one else.

I doubt the ship can be righted to much more than a .500 record, which at this point might be a stretch.

Lavin has proven in his tenure that he can't compete with the other Coaches in attracting the right pieces to put out a complete team.. We have too many players who look athletic but, don't have the size, speed or shooting skills to match up with our BE foes.

And,, Lavin has to hold himself accountable for the team on the floor this year and the empty cupboard next year.. I just hope the Administration evaluates his body of work as the failure it has been. I doubt we make the NCAA TOURNAMENT without a winning BE record and we are 0-2 on our homecourts.

Lavin's arrogance in not even showing up at CHSAA OR PSAL GAMES over these years is inexcusable.. Steve has accomplished 1 thing, he's fortified his legacy as a mediocre or below Coach. He's not getting new Recruits because the word is out among Players that he won't improve your game and isn't a Championship builder. Why would anyone want to play for him?

UCLA fans were right in despising him and they warned us.

This is a flawed team, Paultz, no question, but they fight. Boy, do they fight.
Very proud regardless of the outcome. They've gotten away without really boxing out hardcore until tonight. They know that's over.

CO is showing offensive improvement. They are working the inside more which will pay dividends down the road.

Jordan needs to get it together, but he can't possibly play worse.

Harrison is getting better and smarter every game.

Yea we fight but again it is gonna be hard to win when this team wears down like this late in games in early January

Maybe but you still have to put the ball in the hole and most teams can;t do it like Nova.
Good looking team with a lot of weapons. We are going to have to scratch and claw for our wins
but they will come.

They need to get Stewart and JDR in the rotation imo... Even for a few minutes here and there... Enough with the 6 man rotation bs...

I liked the look of Myles Stewart, he could become the next Dwight Hardy. That is why you watch the games.

He has done nothing that would auger against giving him more minutes.

Q. Why is St. John's like a vandalized bus stop?
A. Neither have a bench.

Ba-dum-dum-tish. Goodnight all y'all.

Flawed & a pencil thin roster. Sorry, can't share your optimism.

Yes, I thought the post game handshake between Wright and Lavin had some fire in the exchange.

Wright's strategy in the 2nd half worked as he played a very physical game and Pinkston and and Daniel O just wore CO down to a frazzle and that was it. I think Steve felt the Wildcats continued to pile on, long after the outcome was decided. It did turn into a rout at the end.

Nova is a well structured team with all the pieces fitting. They are and have been, what Lavib should have been building here and hasn't.

I was disgusted when we lost Thomas to eligibility problems, thought we wouldn't have enough front court depth and size. Preseason masked that deficiency. But the physical BE is exploiting it.

On the money!

Just got home 10minutes ago.

Yeah that was real fun, they kicked our asses in the last 10minutes of the game.
Where was JDR until the last 3 minutes?
And wtf happened to Jordan? Held to 0pnts until 2 FTs late in the game.

I'm boiling right now, now we're 0-3 in the conf.
It is BS that the seniors and CO has to play so much with a freaking bench, and yeah Marillac that's on coach Lavin.

I liked the look of Myles Stewart, he could become the next Dwight Hardy. That is why you watch the games.

He's a very impressive freshman. It's probably time to bring him in a few times a game after a stoppage in play on the offensive end...even if it just until the next whistle. He is very confident and doesn't hesitate at all coming in cold.

Might try getting Balamou a lob that way off an inbound as well.

Fwiw the schedule does get a lot softer, sure they are road games but against teams much more beatable than nova.

Unfortunately I don't see NCAA unless rysheed can really get himself together.
