Villanova Game

Wonder if he'll change his mind on twitter, again:

St. John's (18-9) at No. 9 Villanova (23-3)
Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1

St. John's' resurgence from an 0-5 start in the conference is one of the more remarkable stories in college basketball. Beating Villanova on the road would be hard enough, except now the Red Storm have to do it without their shot-blocking center Chris Obekpa, who is out another week-and-a-half with a sprained ankle. As for the Wildcats, they played their last three games on the road, one of which a blowout loss at Creighton. They're ready for some home cooking.

Villanova 76, St. John's 66

If we lose this game, what are the implications to our RPI and bubble status?
Not bad, they are top 10 and away game, It would also be 1 more loss for us. On the other hand,if we win the implication would be big.

Can't wait for this game, don't want obekpa to force the return just because it's a top 10 opponent. Xavier is almost just as important as this game. Take he extra three days and come back 100%

Maybe he faked the injury and will come out and have a monster game.

Just kidding but that would be awesome.

an fyi on point spreads.....not sure if vegas is setting the lines from this or not but I would say almost 100% of the time for the opening lines....all you have to do is look at the sagarin ratings.....villanova is ranked 2nd overall in this rating index at 91.33 and st johns is 43 rd at 83.41...difference is roughly 8 points.....then you add the home team advantage index here as villanova is home (home index is 3.32)...that gets you your 11 point spread.....line has already moved down to 9 points....as ccnobz said....Creighton was giving 14....as they are the number 3 in this system......and we took em to the last seconds at Creighton......as vegas or sagarin got that line wrong by a lot....so too is this one in my opinion

Everything has been nice up to this point. Tomorrow is a chance to put real substance into the notion that this is a tourney team and a team to be reckoned with. Nova had better be ready or they will find out what Georgetown discovered.

C'mon guys - this is it - a chance to make this NCAA talk real. Whip these guys.

totally agree!!

First meeting: We actually had a 1 point lead on them with 6 minutes to go and were within 4 with 48 seconds to play... Recall this was the game where we missed quite a few layups. It was there for the taking but we were playing without much cohesion and had a week off (rusty?) since the shellacking by G'town.

Jakarr 10
Sanchez 4
RJ 12
PG IV 4
D'lo 22
CO 4
GG 0
Jamal2
Sir'D 6
Max 3

Got wiped on the boards 30-20 or something like that. Jakarr had 9. Harrison had 22 but only 4/13 from the field along w 13-14 from the line. When you consider that FTA do not count as FGA (meaning if you get fouled in the act it only counts as a FGA if the ball goes in), so that type of performance will not result in a W. Rebounding must be a team effort. We know that Jordan and Harrison are capable rebounders as guards (Harrison 4.4/Jordan 3.2). Sanchez is averaging 5.2 rebounds, and needs to step that up (although he rebounds about the same or better than Obekpa). Jakarr is a 6.1. If we can keep the boards even, the way we've been playing it will be one heck of a game.

Yup, were out-rebounded 48 to 39 total. Here's a horror stat: they went to the line 40 times (made 31) to our 24 (19). That is a huge differential.

Jakarr and Sanchez fouled out.

My biggest concern in this game is the ref's and foul trouble. If we avoid that I think we win

My #1 concern as well. Arcidiacono is a major, major flopper. If Jordan can cover him without running into major foul trouble and Sampson stays out of trouble I also think we'll win.

Interesting - so if Villanova and Creighton play for the Big East finals it would open at roughly pickem even though Creighton crushed Nova the first two games.

thats an interesting one..and one that says Creighton should be giving 4-5 based on previous games...but im telling you I look at this a lot and am amazed how spot on the opening lines and these ratings are......the public would jump all over it and drive the line Creighton giving points very quickly....

Hooper played 18 minutes last time they played.
That ain't happening tomorrow.

From your lips to God's ears

Agree. And if it does happen, I will start a new "Fire Lavin" thread! ;)

I don't remember being as confident in any St. John's team on the road than I am with this one. I agree that if we can stay out of foul trouble we can win this game. Personally I would like to see Obekpa get some burn tomorrow but nothing significant. I agree that Tuesday's game is just as important but I think that this is a HUGE opportunity for this team to show some muscle and I am more confident in us beating Xavier & DePaul at the Garden with or without CO

Guess what the line was @ the Garden last month?.................................................................................

4 1/2.
Bet no one got that correct.

Villanova shot 35% in that game and we still lost. We need to shoot a lot better.
