Credit to the coaches and team for hanging in and being competitive, more than I thought would happen. BUT, how frustrating is it to make a great comeback only to have a boneheaded coaching move and an inexplicable lack of focus and intensity give McDermott a wide open 3. I cannot believe the staff put Obekpa on McDermott on the last possession. A player not used to the perimeter, whose instincts are to leave his man to help and block shots, which is exactly what happened. Compounding that bonehead mistake, Harrison WATCHING the play as his man picks Obekpa, not even a thought to help and check McDermott, a great player who was lighting it up all night. Absolutely inexplicable to me on both. One last point, I thought Sampson played excellent D on McDermott despite his great night but quick shots and too much one on one on offense almost right from the start just killed us. Credit for the defensive game plan and the committment to D by the team but in the end they just showed they can play tough against a good team and lose, which we already knew from Wisconsin and Syracuse. Very, very disappointing.
Why was Harrison even on the court, is he one of our top 5 defenders?
I think so.
Really, better then Jordan? Defense only I mean.Credit to the coaches and team for hanging in and being competitive, more than I thought would happen. Yankees have announced that they will be experimenting with different pitching rotations through August. They hope to start playing well sometime in September.
Love the fight, disappointed by the result. Wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have so much ground to make up.
And man, you guys really will blame Lavin for anything. It's one thing to be critical, I do it too but its another to b*tch and complain about everything the man does
Sorry.
But after 36 points in a tie game, you let anyone but the possible national Player Of The Year beat you.
Anyone.
You would rather be blown out by 20 than lose on a shot by arguably the best player in the nation with 2 .6 seconds left?????? Really????Well, that stunk! Would rather have been blown out than lose this way against the supposedly best team in the BE.
This is a come from behind team. They have guts and grit. Don't count them out, ever. I think we make a run and not only make the Tourny, but also make a run. Just my personal thoughts, hopes and dreams.
How could we not stay right on him
Watched the replay 10 times, Obekpa picked off but Harrison was 5 ft away and didn't even make a move toward dougie. He was way off the screener should have moved out and let the other guy try and beat us.
I just feel obekpa should've been in McDermott grill at the end, he sagged off, and gave him a look.
He got picked off, could have even been a moving screen. D'lo should have been up more.
Yea but if obekpa was in mcdermotts jersey it would've been nearly impossible for him to be picked off.
I agree. I refuse to get on Lavin for that because every player on our team shouldn't need a coach to know who would get the ball. It's common sense.Love the fight, disappointed by the result. Wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have so much ground to make up.

You think Lavin didn't tell them that?
Hey Lavin.
That's how you draw up a play.
It's much easier to do that when you have an elite player.
Draw up a play?
Not gonna go back and forth on this, but you mentioned about drawing up a play. Basically, the intention of the post meant more than the play itself.
Nevertheless, McDermott is an elite player, and big-time shooter. He made a play, as he's been doing throughout most of his career. I didn't particularly like the way Obekpa (as, he probably isn't used to being in that position, so high) didn't recognize it and went under (the pick). That was your ballgame.
.... Carry on.

Jordan's a stud. But for the love of God, you can't shoot 50% from the line in these games.

It was a fun game tonight. But it's also February and we haven't beaten an above average team yet.

McDermott scored because he is one of the best players in the country having his biggest output of the season. He can score inside and out, put the ball on the floor, and presents all sorts of problems for a defense. Did he give him too much room, yea of course, but this isn't chess - you have maybe a 1/10th of a second to make some decisions, and in this case, a shot blocker saw his man and saw the ball, and reacted to help out. I think we would all be calling Lavin brilliant had Obekpa blocked the jumper and we had won.
I think this time last week we'd have all signed up for a blowout at Butler, and a one possession game vs. Creighton. We came within 3 seconds of a chance to sweep both games on the road.
Actually thought Lavin coached a good game tonight...the rotations made sense for the most part...and he didn't stick with guys "just because"...he had a good plan for Wragge and shut down everyone but McD...and made McD work a bit...
