Undersized ... Centers …. Player comparisons past and present

One of the worst games I ever watched.
I almost destroyed the tv. Just dumb plays and a horrible no call on Comegys. I think it was Willie Glass and Mark Jackson’s last games as Johnnies. And DePaul was playing in Chicago , what BS.
Yes - that team had Jackson, Glass and Shelton Jones. Not great depth.

Funny thing about Wayne McKoy. He was an undersized college center at 6ft 9in and was a giant at that same size as a high school sophomore.
Wayne matured by his soph season at LuHi, he dominated kids and never developed his game. When he got here I think his first game was an exhibition against the USSR team and he held his own, AH was electric that night and I thought he was going to be the answer at center, but then he ran into big kids who matured later and he was sometimes overmatched. Jeff Ruland of Iona abused him twice.

I think a lot of people, myself included, had unreasonable expectations, based on his reputation in HS. Wayne was a great player for us and was one of the reasons Reggie Carter transferred in from Hawaii.

I remember Bill Mazer on Ch 5 said while he was in HS move over Lew Alcindor there is a new kid in town at LI Lutheran and his name is Wayne McKoy. He was rated top 3 his senior season along with some guy named Ervin Johnson. (There’s that long term memory kicking in). Thought we were really in business.

Yep, they were playing at their home arena (Rosemont Horizon). That was the last season the NCAA allowed teams to play games on their home court in the NCAA Tournament.

Before the start of McKoys junior high school season Street and Smiths basketball issue rated him the top high school basketball player in the country. Before his senior year they had him as number two behind Gene Banks
He stopped growing at an early age and never became the college player most had thought but was certainly a good player at SJU. Because of his early promise,he was an unstoppable bull in high school, he was a disappointment.
Playing high school at LI Lutheran he was Wes Unseld.
