Travesty!!!!!

For die hard fans like myself and I'm sure most others here, this has not been an easy loss to get over. In what was such a big game for us, we essentially had it taken away from us. The insult of explanations that have followed only make it worse.

Thank goodness we have a forum like this to vent our frustrations and ease the pain.
I suspect your email is the best. This forum allowed us to vent. Letters to anyone wont't serve much of a purpose. The error was caused by the ref thinking the play was to be ruled dead, presumably because he thought the ball was out and Figueroa had stepped out. The rest is either application or misapplication of the rules. Nothing will come of emails.

Pretty certain that any disputes related to the clock, their official explanation, may not be protested.

There are a mound of rules that I would be pretty sure few coaches study because they are so rarely applied. Not a defense of mullin, but once a whistle stops play when the ball and player are in the air and possession not clearly established, what do you do? I still don't know what the rules state
Come on Beast, do the email ! It will take less time than a typical post. This is America!!
Nice Response from Mike Cragg. The route they are taking is as expected.. Not much else they can do. Hopefully results in BE issuing some sort of statement.

Thank you for sharing your passion and interest in St. John's and for our men's basketball program. In great part, It is your devotion and investment into the school and our athletics program, as to exactly why I wanted to be at St. John's when looking for the right fit as an Athletic Director. I love it and share that passion for wanting it to be great, and for St. John's to be a prominent part of the national fabric of sports in NYC and our country.

With the strongest of convictions, I believe we have that opportunity in front of us!

Last Saturday night did not end with the desired result or the proper outcome after L.J. made a tremendous "winning play" on defense. In the end as administrators, coaches, and fans - that is all we can ask - that the players play hard and with passion ... I believe our staff and players have achieved that success for all 13 games this year.

We have properly and privately communicated our thoughts on the final minute of play to the Big East office - and that, again, is all we can do in a professional, classy, and efficient manner. Those are the standards we will uphold here at St. John's as a proud member of the conference.

All that being said - we must now focus on the immediacy of facing a Top 20 team in our home arena tomorrow night! Coach Mullin did that exact thing in the locker room after the game to the team - turning their attention immediately to the very fact of moving on to the "next play".

Most importantly, there is no doubt we need you and many, many others with us in the building - not only tomorrow night - but throughout the season as many times as possible. That is the very first step in making sure we seize upon these "moments" for a positive outcome and helping our program back to achieving successes at the highest levels on a consistent basis. Clearly you have done that over the past many years…THANK YOU!

Again - appreciate your note and hope to meet you soon!

Go St. John's!

The ending of that game was the moment Cragg officially realized he isn't at Duke any longer. I am sure it must have been much simpler then.

Amazingly this is only the third worst jobbing I can remember as a fan of the team.
1. Bull shit tech on Billy Singleton vs Duke in NCAA game.
2. Bull shit goaltending call on Terry Bross vs Depaul @ Depaul in NCAA tourney. Yes that is correct @ Depaul in NCAA tourney game.
3. Saturday night clock gate game
4. No walk call on Cuse in BET loss at buzzer.

This is worse because of the scene at the monitor when we all witnessed the two knuckleheads concoct their bullshit story.

Many said Comegys committed lane violation in this NCAA Tourney game which still sticks in my gut per Sports Illustrated;

“It was the biggest miss of Dallas Comegys's career, and he's had a lot of them. This one, however, was intentional. With 12 seconds left and DePaul trailing St. John's 69-67, Comegys was at the line to complete—or so it seemed—a three-point play. But, acting on his own, Comegys bounced his free throw off the rim and chased after it down the lane. Teammate Stanley Brundy, who had gotten the word from Comegys and knew the miss was coming, swooped in first, but the ball caromed off his hands to the Blue Demons' Kevin Edwards. When Edwards passed the ball to DePaul's Rod Strickland, who tossed in the tying layup, Comegys looked like a genius. The four-point play bought the Blue Demons an OT life, in which they beat the Redmen 83-75 and delivered themselves from what appeared to be their sixth early-round flameout in their last seven NCAA appearances. "I didn't think a free throw would do us any good," shrugged Comegys, "and I thought we could use our quickness”

Forgot about that and that was same game as Bross goaltending. Again playing away game in tourney so.......
I still have Singleton tech as #1

Anyone have the names of the game officials? I would like them to know "We Remember" every time they ref one of our games.

Section 3 - Thanks for sharing your e-mails with us and AD Cragg’s response. As a St. John’s fan or AD in 2018 soon to be 2019 you can feel like you are on an island. This is what makes every game seem like the end of the world. We know that making the NCAA tournament is a must to increase fan support, get more games at the Garden and improve recruiting. At this point the best we can do is as Cragg’s response said is keep supporting the team and hope for the best.

P.S - We could also chain ourselves to 655 Third Avenue and hope the arrest goes viral :)

Michael Stephens, James Breeding and Tony Chiazza. Stephens is notoriously bad.

I consider Comegy's lane violation no call even worse than the Seton Hall fiasco because it was a NCAA game. Watching it on TV it was so obvious a violation that happened right in front of an official I convinced myself that I didn't know the rule. Since Billy Packer who was announcing didn't mention the violation was another reason I thought I didn't have the rule correct in my mind.
I hate the wasted time reviewing calls but if the idea is to get the call right I can understand spending the necessary time to get it right.

The worst part of this whole situation including Mr. Cragg's response is the word "truth" or "honesty" is missing. Listen, I am not asking for the call to be overturned or changed. Its too late. That's how sports works sometimes. No it is not the end of the world. Humans make mistakes. However, I cannot accept or understand why its so hard to admit the obvious. Their is never shame in admitting the truth. Something like "an error was made, but both teams still had a chance to win the game....etc". "we'll work to prevent this kind of error in the future". I still might not like it but at least it is an honest and transparent answer. It is also the truth.
My feeling is if we need people to run cover, make excuses ('timing error", that's a whopper) and not even make an appropriate statement then maybe people like Val Ackerman and Stu Jackson are not the right type of people to run the conference.

Yes...Those were some frustrating calls in St. John's history...and there were more. The un-called hip check on Eric Barkley in the NCAA final eight game against Ohio State.....a Duke flop against Postell at the end of a close NCAA game....and a Syracuse charge against Bernard Rencher in a regular season game at Carnesecca. But I differ on one thing. Having been around since the MacIntyre days, this one is # 1. That is because we won this game. There is no judgement involved. This incompetent referee clearly sole away an important victory. He had the luxury to review this play for a long time. The video evidence was clear as day.He didn't even bring in the third ref, who was chatting away with Chris Mullin. His decision basically awarded the game incorrectly to Seton Hall....and he over-ruled his crew to cover up his error.

Agreed. It’s the cover-up that makes this situation such an abomination. The fact that the refs had SHU in-bound the ball on the sideline, as opposed to the baseline (ie, where the ball would have been in-bounded if there really was a “timing issue”), just highlights further incompetence on top of the cover-up. It is more than fair (or mandates) to expect more from a high school league, let alone a “power” college basketball conference.
