My question with mason is if he is willing to be a 6th man (unless we play 3 guards) and can he score without as many minutes and shooting volume. He played 37.6 minutes a game and average 18.5 shots a game. He also averaged 11 ft a game which means the ball was pretty much always in his hands.
He would start at the three alongside Jordan and Harrison. He'd be one of our strongest players and he could play the four in a small lineup as well. From what I've seen of the kid, he actually doesn't have the ball in his hands anywhere near as much as you would expect from the #s. He's a slasher that just can't be kept out of the lane (see the 34 pts against SH). He seeks out contact and can finish through it...he was second in the country in FT attempts.
I don't expect anywhere near 25 a game, but 15 is a real possiblity and adding a third legit scorer would make things very tough on defenses. He's jacked...strong kid.
All that being said, there has not been any indication anywhere (other than a passing mention in an article from Feb) that he's transferring or interested in St. John's.
Correct. I am hoping if I post about it enough, it will be noticed by someone from SJU or in the Mason camp. I am not even sure the staff knew of the situation. He was quoted as saying he was interested in playing in a major conference closer to home according to the Niagara forum. I can't think of a better fit..his brother played here, he's from from Queens and New Rochelle, and his dad played at Madison Square Garden.
