Transfers

I'm with Dinkins, Rawdog, Doody and Fuchsia on this. I'm going to wait and see what happens. We have our star players in D-Lo, Jordan and CO. We needed big guys who are role players and can rebound, play defense and score garbage baskets around the rim. hopefully we got that with Thomas and ADR. We might have even got a little more offensively that just garbage baskets from a guy like Thomas. Lavin also brought in Myles Stewart who is more than just a walk on. He was injured a lot during this high school season and in a recent article I read his high school coach said that if he was able to play that he would have been much more highly recruited and that he's grown to 6'5 - 6'6 and that he played Elijah Stewart (a top prospect) straight up. I'm not saying that Stewart will be a savior but his high school coach feels like St. John's got a steal. He said he is a very good outside shooter. so we'll see. If Stewart can just give us quality back up minutes at the 3 and Pointer can play somewhat up to his potential we can make some noise. I'm with Dinkins and the others in the let's wait and see club.

If we have to rely on him at all, we are in trouble. Greene shot 40% from three last year on 2.3 attempts per game. Harrison shot 37% on 5.2 attempts. If Jordan and Branch can step it up to the 32-35% range, we will be much better. Stewart's biggest impact might be felt in practice.

I'm anxious to see Stewart play, hopefully he is more then a three point shooter such as Bourgault and company. We need shooters who can get their shot off, especially since Lavin doesn't have an offense that could help.

@GTuckerF150: Oregon transfer Dominic Artis will visit St. John's this weekend, per a source

I'm somewhat torn on this one. On the one hand, he has been accused of something horrible and dismissed from his team.

On the other hand, he is innocent until proven guilty. We have only heard one side of this story. On that basis, should he really be branded for the rest of his life? I don't think this is necessarily an easy call.

Oh don't worry, you can read his side of the story here, starting on page 20:

He said it was consensual. Of course, what else would he say, right? He also said that he and the victim had sex again the next morning again. Which may or may not be true. She herself said she had sex with a fourth Oregon player the next day while Artis and Dotson were in the next room. Which seems strange--maybe it's not, I don't know and it does not excuse what happened the night before if it was not consensual.

The whole thing is disgusting and sad. But I still am not sure that Artis should be branded for the rest of his life.

Let him go elsewhere.

At best for Artis, it was a consensual gang bang, which lead to the dismissal of half our team a decade ago. And again that's the BEST spin on these events.

Confirmed by Zags also. Oh boy.

@NYPost_Brazille: St. John's will be hosting Oregon transfer Dominic Artis this weekend, per source. #sjubb @GTuckerF150 first to report.

He may visit, but if St. John's is like other schools, I can see pressure from professors and women on campus to keep an offer from happening.

I'd prefer a talented PG who respects women and the law. Hopefully we find one.

Good, no bargain;

@NYPost_Brazille: Missouri transfer Shane Rector, who listed St. John's interest, has signed with Miami Dade CC per @JucoRecruiting. #sjubb

This transfer doesn't make any sense to me. He played 33 mpg as a freshman and was going to be their top scoring option next season. Colorado is, at best, a lateral move. The only thing that make sense is him ducking top 100 frosh, Jalen Lindsey.

Colorado's made the NCAA Tourney the last 3 years in a row, which is more than Cooley has managed to do. But still a radical move for him to make, considering the minutes he would have gotten at Providence.
