Transfer Portal

As for everyone thinking there will be a wholesale change in SJU's roster like two years ago- I don't necessarily see that happening.

I think Pitino sees an immediate opportunity next year in an underachieving team with three all-conference players in Posh, Joel and AJ plus other valuable pieces like a 4th-year player in Dylan, a promising guard in Kolby, etc.

I'm sure he's thinking to himself that he could easily take an 18-win team and make them a 25-win team without jettisoning the whole roster. He has certainly walked into far worse situations before.
Pitino could have similar results Lavin had his first year when he took over a senior laden team.

Pretty amazing how little impact our recruiting loses have had in Riley, Cuffe and Sanders
Cuffe injured his knee (ACL and MCL) before full practice began and never suited up this year after redshirting last year.

Sanders this is Sanders’ first year, so there is still time.

That was a magical season for sure. But just went back to the results and was reminded of a few things. The team that year got off to a slow start, losing to Fordham and St Bonaventure and needing OT to beat Ball State. And second, the Big East that year was so good! At one point St John's played 8 consecutive games in a row against ranked teams. Not sure how much that's been done if ever.

IMO assuming the key components stay, we are 2 players away from being a very good team; an outside shooter(and no, Harrison Reede is not going to immediately fill that void), and a skilled big man to compliment Joel. I like Stanley a lot, and think he's developing in to a nice player, but still think we need a legit PF/C to bang inside with or without Joel on the floor.

Don’t want to open up the “raiding Iona” discussion again but I think Rick might already have one. I know it’s the MAAC, but physically he’s not a maac player. And if Soriano were to be here with him, he wouldn’t have to hold down a BE front court alone.

TO be seen but Yax could be your answer to legit PF with Gardner in training

Obviously too early to know anything since he's not even here yet, but with Pitino I'm not ready to concede on any kid, even transfers who grew up 20 minutes from Syracuse. He left for a reason.
Yeah but this one I think is coming home...

I think it would have happened if not for all the Pitino rumors to St. John's. Now I think our guys who would have portaled are now waiting to see who takes over. Just my opinion. And what the hell do I know, anyway. ;) :ROFLMAO:

Can someone explain how this works. If you enter the portal, and eventually decide to return to your original school, do they have to take you back?
