Transfer Portal

I hope the best for the kid. But, it is sad for him that his trajectory seems to have plateaued. Who knows why, but sometimes people try to be too cute and end up on the short end (ie, read his mom). I am sure if he does well at Bryant, he will be in the portal again next spring.
You only get 1 free transfer
The only exception is for a graduate transfer, which Gardner would not be next spring
If he wanted to transfer again next spring, he would have to qualify for a waiver or sit out a year

Which is why I bet MM goes to Kansas. They won the Timberlake and Hunter Dickinson haul for a reason.
This is were the lack transparency/lack of payment history is hurting the players. Everyone hears rumors of big paydays and think they are out there for everyone. Dickinson was the best player on a blue blood team and earned less 100k from his school's collective. Certainly a nice payday, but nearly in the rarified air that hits certain players or the rumor mill.

In Kansas’s case, they are certainly outbidding people. My bet is MM next.

Indiana has a ton of NIL money though, as SJU79 pointed out when discussing their recruitment of Dingle.
And , while 79 reported that Dingle wasn’t just looking for the highest $$$ , there was no such information about Mgbako .

Hey , it’s a free market and players , parents , advisors all part of the decision process .

Good luck to Mackenzie . If it weren’t for Pitino being our Coach , we would have never gotten a look at him , after he re-entered the Portal . We were in there competing with Kansas , IU , L’ville , etc .

All due to RP .

Kind of like a job. You're probably going to get more money looking elsewhere than the pay raise from your current job.

Not saying this is the case, but it seems like lots of players(that includes parents, handlers, advisors, etc) have overvalued themselves this year both in terms of NIL money and expectations(guaranteed minutes, etc). The market has gone crazy and Gardner may have priced himself right out of the high D1 market. At least for the time being.
When you live by the sword you sometimes die by the sword!

For sure, Kansas seeming has the largest NIL collective budget in the nation. I just was interest in Michigan data point. UM knew going into last year that HD was their best player and they had their sites on being a tournament team.

HD came out and said he didn’t clear 100k last year and he was a number 1 guy at a wealthy school. It seems to have lent credence to that On3 article saying the median NIL for power 6 starters was ~70k and ~40k for high mid majors (I think the article used the A-10 as an example, multi bid conference not in the top 6).

I just find the NIL stories weirdly compelling.

It's super compelling -- too compelling. It's like the NFL/NBA/MLB, but no cap or luxury tax, no public information on how much money they have, no public information on how much the player gets, and even, no information on how the player gets the money. It's fascinating, and a total mess.

And son of my friends Tim and Tara O'Connell, SJU grads. Football and softball player respectively. Brother of Tom, MD lacrosse player, basketball walkon at SJU. Chaminade grads.

Some very good choices for a young man who is getting his degree from Stanford in three years.

Michael, who also was a heavily recruited player for lacrosse like his brother, left Chaminade and spent his senior year at Blair Academy starting in the same backcourt as Kyle Cuffe Jr. to increase his basketball profile. It obviously worked.
