What about with Williams and Anthony, who I know wasn't one of the big guns?
I know it would have been tough to do it again but Stepinac did beat them at least once with CTK having both players during the season.

Pretty simple. NCAA can’t limit what an athlete earns.
but the NCAA CAN say if you earn over $XXX, you are not an amateur &
can’t participate in NCAA events. A reasonable limit like 50-100K/ yr ??
That is a slippery slope. NCAA allows players to be pro in one sport and an amateur in another. Plenty of examples from the past (John Elway, Brian Jordan, both amateurs in football but professionals in baseball, and, Amir Garrett, Trajan Langdon and Kenny Lofton all three amateurs in basketball but played minor league baseball) probably less so know with more specialization geared to one sport with no limit of what they make.

NCAA will not do what you want because those same people who forced their hand to adopt something will be back at them again for placing a limit on what someone can make on the outside while not limiting what coaches, administrators or schools can make utilizing these athletes.

Agree. Can't have it both ways. Let's call it what it is: a new professional sports league. Actually leagues, when you consider the various sports. Having said that, I'm still not on board with whole NIL concept. I'm cool with anyone making as much as the market will pay them. What I'm not cool with is donating to make a college basketball player(or anyone for that matter) a millionaire.

Something very very wrong with this premise IMO. And for those who say "well we can't compete with other schools if we don't kick in some money for NIL", that's all good and well and you're free to do as you wish, but I ain't contributing to a system that I think is highly flawed.

I'll buy my tickets, food, beverage, merchandise, etc, but I got way more needy causes to donate my hard earned money to.

I also agree. If someone is making money off a kids name in a video game,etc... yes NIL should be given. But now its donations to marketing companies just to get them to stay and make money. Unfortunately its corrupt, but it is the NCAA we are talking about.

This is perfect for the NCAA, they made almost anything and everything legal, so they get to grow their cash cow without any additional expense and with little regulation and oversight. The NCAA wins and the players win. That's all good and well in business. Just don't expect me to donate when you've already got billions of dollars being divvied up.

Just to keep score. These 3 guys need to graduate or get a waiver.

Dannis
Quinn
Nahiem

Don't worry, schools are already working on workarounds for the new rules. I think the NCAA's goal was to eliminate waivers all together, making the process straightforward (1-time free transfer and then 1 year sit out no matter what) but it seems that the NCAA has once again done a bad job projecting.

Yes - this. With the explosion of TV money there was already funds to pay the players. The NCAA loves this because the schools are supposed to “not be involved” which allows them to not have to use any of the money they have been raking in for years.
