Yes but if a player opted not to play that year 2020-21 (forget about the conference) he is not being penalized per se, he still gets a 4th year.
The 5th year so to speak was only for kids who chose to play that year. The NCAA simply said if you play that year it is in essence a free year. You don't lose a year for playing and you don't lose your minimum 4 years of eligibility for not playing.
Simply put if you or your conference chose to NOT play in 20-21 you cannot simply transfer that "extra" year to any year you like. You don't lose your traditional 4 years of eligibility but at the same time you don't get a free 5th year down the road.
Dingle, it has been written, wants to test the waters here. I don’t see his name so far.![]()
NBA draft combine 2023: A complete tracker of player invitations
Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have earned invitations to compete in the NBA draft combine and G League Elite Camp.therookiewire.usatoday.com
This will be an interesting thing to monitor. My understanding with the new NBA CBA is that you need to participate in the combine in order to be eligible to get drafted by NBA teams. So logically, if you're trying to leave early for the NBA but you aren't invited to the combine, you'd likely step into the portal instead. Portal deadline is May 11th, so I'm sure more will hop in in the next week depending on this.

That's why they changed it in the CBA. It is in effect 2024, so not this year.I always was under the impression that the top rated draft picks skip the combine and NBA doesn’t bother inviting them because it is more geared to those that need to prove they are draft worthy or to at least increase their stock to be drafted higher. The Wembenyama’s and Henderson’s probably don’t get invited (wouldn’t want to risk injury and don’t need to prove anything as a prospect and these considerations come from both sides).

Yep, Self finally ran out of space to keep this kid around. Not crazy to think that Kansas lands both Dickinson and Mgbako within the next week or so and becomes the clear national champion favoriteClearing space for someone!
Yeah this is not a good sign for us landing Mgbako sorry to say. Don't know much about Jr but I remember the Kyle cuffe days at sju and he was a solid player. Maybe junior wants to follow in dad's footsteps ? Wouldn't mine taking a look at him if we don't grab the big fishClearing space for someone!

I don't think this has any bearing on Mgbako and Kansas, I think they had room for him already.
Only real upside is Kyle will probably apply for a medical redshirt and if granted would give him 4 full years left of eligibility (he already redshirted his 1st year and then played only 2 games last year before getting hurt).
But he is not the proven scorer they need to round out this roster. I think Fordham would be a great fit.
