Holloway asked his players and they all wanted to play. Rick may have very well asked his seniors and they declined. The more i think amount skipping the NIT the more upset I get. And this is the stupidest of all of Zach may stupid takes. 32 teams have no trouble working the portal and playing, including a bunch of teams that aren't hurting for NIL money. If Rick can't do two things at once let Mas coach and Rick can race around the US with Repole's check book. If any combination Zuby, Wilcher, Dunlap, Taylor and Luis are coming back and you really care about next year you'd give them a chance to play 5 competitive games. They are not going to get that experience playing stony brook, holy cross, and fordham to start next year. Learning how to play against actual competition and learning how to win is important. SHU, Butler, Xavier, Nova, and Providence all know this, but then again their coaches can keep their ego in check.
I get your take but what if most/all of the seniors don't want to play and/or a few potentially to transfer but haven't made it public? The more i think amount skipping the NIT the more upset I get. You seriously think, after everything Pitino had said to the media this year if the kids didn't want to play he wouldn't just immediately throw them under the bus. Plus 4 of these seniors will have the option to play professionally somewhere and could use this a last change to impress agents/foreign leagues. Also, I can't imagine Conway just saying, sure let's just end my competitive basketball career playing 30 seconds in the BET.Holloway asked his players and they all wanted to play. Jenkins and Dingle will take a shot at the nba. If they were to get hurt in a meaningless tourney, that would be crushing for them.
Without the seniors, they dont have enough bodies to play.
Holmes is a college 5. If you play him at the 4 with a center you’re slowing down what Pitino wants to do. You get him to play the 5…that’s great. I’d sign for that right now. I do think he’ll be looking to prove his outside game more next year which always worries me from big men.I disagree. What Pitino needs is an athletic, quick stretch power forward who can score and rebound which I think Holmes brings to the table. I'm not sure that Cliff will be a significant upgrade to what Zuby will bring to the table next year.
He apologized for throwing them under the bus. He is not about to do that again over a meaningless tourney. You seriously think, after everything Pitino had said to the media this year if the kids didn't want to play he wouldn't just immediately throw them under the bus. I don't buy it. This was 100% Rick's decision.
Rick has made his statement and said hes moving on. St johns fans need to as well. Its over and we have no one but ourselves for not making the tourney.I have no inside specific knowledge...but after what happened this weekend...I have to think that Pitino goes scorched earth here. He hates losing with such a passion that he will make sure that getting screwed by the committee next year means a 4 seed. This snub, and Danny boy antics up in Cowtown will make us better next year and beyond. Just feel bad for the seniors who played their hearts out at the end and certainly raised their level of play.
If it was RP’s decision, it was in the best interest of the seniors. They don’t need to get hurt and lose out on a possible basketball career overseas. You seriously think, after everything Pitino had said to the media this year if the kids didn't want to play he wouldn't just immediately throw them under the bus. Still mIght try to go pro.Trilly just said in discord Cliff is entering the portal.
Coach Carnesecca always said “You never want to put the balls away” when a season is was over. Yes the experience would have been good for the younger guys but if they are not all in on playing, you get the Robert Morris debacle. The more i think amount skipping the NIT the more upset I get. There are several decent teams in there, some we have already lost to while playing at full strength. Putting our freshman and a few others out there, without our seniors would be basketball suicide, we would get crushed.I get your take but what if most/all of the seniors don't want to play and/or a few potentially to transfer but haven't made it public?
Can't throw a handful of next year kids out there.
We don't know if Pitino's decision alone, or if the team voted etc.
Interested to see the list on this one
They are basketball players they’ll be playing basketball again today and everyday because that’s what they do they play basketball. Do you think they are going to rap themselves in a plastic bubble. You can get hurt in practice in pick up games in camps you can’t live your life being worried about being injured. If it was RP’s decision, it was in the best interest of the seniors. As long as they have the requisite energy, effort, and balls to make a big play, I'm in. After November, I don't think anyone on here can complain about Ledlum at all. When we see SJU portal targets who don’t come with big ratings out of prep school, as Moose noted, UConn in last two years brought in Newton and Spencer, game changers. I think we get a well known name, but also give me basketball players who can shoot, defend, play team ball & fit w what Pitino wants to run.
