THIS Season (formerly Next Season)

@AdamZagoria: Malik Ellison, Durand Johnson, Federico Mussini, Georgios Papagiannis in mix for St. John's after they missed out on Diallo.

@AdamZagoria: Mullin also said Chris Obekpa and Rysheed Jordan are expected to play big roles next season...Unclear who else will step up from returnees

That's an easy one .................. nobody
Have to count on the new recruits to carry us with Sheed and CO

I think a lot of posters are underestimating that we have upperclassmen that were 5 star and 4 star recruits. That is a nice base to build around.

you have got to be kidding me... that is not a reasonable answer. He is 6'6" and has never played PG in college or in the last few years.

Right now, that's the only reasonable answer. Hopefully, soneone else is brought in. Barring foul trouble, all we need is someone to give us 5-7 minutes as the backup.

Btw, unlike many on this board, I think Rysheed is a good pg and he will continue to play there. He is not gonna be moved to the 2.

The team will resemble the cartoon where Bugs Bunny plays all nine positions in a baseball game.

Rysheed brings the ball up, passes to Rysheed, Rysheed shoots, Rysheed rebounds.

Too bad we lost Joey.

Jordan averaged just under 31mins/game last year. So you want him to play more time, all the while being the opponents focal point on defense? I just don't think that's realistic. We will need the backup to give us a solid 10-12mins/game at least, otherwise I can see Jordan getting extremely tired at the season goes on.

I am hopeful that we will have a decent team. Amar should mature into a good role player as well.

With a multitude of additional 3-star talent supporting Jordan and Obekpa someone will surely step up and shine (i.e. Sima, Mussinni, Ellison, Johnson, etc.)

Not to mention we will have a much improved coaching staff. Slice could have easily been a head coach at a top -tier school. We are building something...

Brian, Mussinni is a 4-STAR player you can't throw him in a list with the late signers we''re after. He'd polish the floor with Ellison. He'd be a top 10 guard if he were graduating from a US high school. He was invited to Nike Summit for a reason. we sign him he's the second best player on the team by a big margin. Getting Mussinni is the difference between being a lower tier Big East team vs. fighting for a tourney birth. I think we have zero chance of landing him but if we did he'd be a huge did.

Zero chance?
We are among his final 2 and arguably many have heard from insiders its either SJU or pro. The other schools aren't even still in discussion.

Like a volume scorer, Zags is a volume poster. He just throws stuff up, with much of it being old or previously reported information. I doubt he has a recent update on Mussini or PapaJohnny.

SJU is the only US college that he has visited

You guys are really a trip when it comes to the beat writers.
Zags and the other beat writers had lunch with the staff today.
Can't get more of an update that right from the horse's mouth.

Wow, didn't know that. I am glad.

.....still feel that way about Zags. Actually like Zach.

Hey we all have favorites :)

I know people dislike Zags, but in the early days of his blog he was breaking news left and right. It was one of my favorite sites back then.

So is our backcourt of Sheed and Durand any worse than top half of the league? Think its actually more like top 3-4.

I don't think Mussini would be a top 10 guard if he were graduating from HS, and I definitely don't think you can say with certainty that he'd be the team's second best player.

Heard the kid is a heck of a shooter but a liability on defense due to his lack of size. We'll see hopefully
