The Tulsa rumors

So, basically no facts from anyone. Kind of like something made up as LMF says.

Matt Norlander, Jeff Borzello and Jeff Goodman are 3 major insiders who have great sources none of which consists of this board.  1 works for CBS, 1 works for ESPN and the other works for Stadium. None of them read this board.

Facts? As in you want a direct statement from Tulsa announcing they are targeting Anderson?

Do we know for a fact that Bobby Hurley was ever targeted by SJU 3 years ago, if so where is it?

Hint: that is not how it works.

I have no clue as to whether the rumors have any truth to them , but history has proven that usually, when it comes to our program, where's there smoke there's at least some fire. Paraphrasing LMF, it's not like these rumors are being posted by only some anti-CMA yahoos on a message board. There are a number of sportswriter all posting about the rumors at the same time. I'd like to think that at least some of them check with reliable sources before posting rumors. Whether or not anything comes this, no one knows. I honestly doubt CMA would leave us for Tulsa, but I most certainly would not completely dismiss the idea.  Again, the cat is out of the bag. If you or anyone thinks it's beneath CMA to deny the rumors in some way, that's fine, but I completely disagree.

What Tulsa rumors besides a bunch of yahoos on the SJU hashtag on Twitter who were repetitiously hollering "Fire Mike Anderson" like the idiots they are and who have now decided to tweet that Tulsa job opening is perfect for Anderson instead?

Thus far I haven't seen a single credible source besides those numbnuts saying it.  As far as I can tell it's just a Twitter echo chamber of Anderson haters who don't know anything at all about basketball.

If I missed one, please post.

No it’s definitely been mentioned by the likes of Zags, Zach, Goodman, Norlander etc.

I don't think CMA pays much mind to Twitter, but I will say that the SJUBB hashtag on Twitter is an embarrassment that could sway a recruit.  Every team has unreasonable Twitter trolls, but #SJUBB is particularly loaded with bufoons and burner accounts.
If JF Jr were a blue chip recruit, and hopefully one day he will be,  would you let twitter influence his college decision in the least? All social media sites are filled with trolls and haters, can't let that influence a college choice. You also can't stop it.

I don’t see Anderson leaving millions of dollars on the table and walking into another rebuild.  He’s only got so many years left to work and build his bank account.

That's a good point. A well counseled kid probably won't consider it.  As for JF Jr, he's not a bad player but can't shoot for $hi!....just like his Dad.  /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Jimmy Sexton is one of the shrewdest agents in the business. Something tells me that if CMA truly wants to make the move to Tulsa, Sexton will figure out a way to deal done.

It's the right move for him if Tulsa is willing to give him 5-6 years minimum. If he gets fired here after next season his only options left would probably be in the Sun Belt or a conference like that, if anything.

I don't know what his buyout is in terms of what another school would have to pay SJU in the event of him leaving, but would be interested to know if Cragg would waive that buyout if Anderson and Tulsa truly did have mutual interest. Schools will often waive that buyout if they are happy to see a coach leave, like what happened with Shaka and Texas/Marquette last offseason.

Have to think Tulsa won't be able to pony up a decent salary + meaningful buyout if Cragg doesn't waive it.

Anderson hasn’t been a block buster recruiter so only could see minimum daamage
I wanted him here 1 more year but if in fact he gets the job wish him good luck It OpenDoc the door for us  to get a coach who is a much better recruiter

What would Shaka have owed in a buyout for taking Marquette  ? If memory serves me correct if Texas would have fired Shaka they were on the hook for something like 7million and he was on the hot seat

If CMA leaves you can kiss the players goodbye and have another "rebuilding" process for which some of us are getting too old to go through again.  As to a replacement--maybe it is time to get someone with good recruiting skills in the NY area; say Van Macon who was responsible for Champ and Posh/Dylan.  He could be supported by shoes who has HC experience and consider moving Zendon to an AC position and might help us retain the young men on the team.

I'm glad you brought this up, you are 100% correct.  I follow a couple NBA teams and follow the Razorbacks as well, and nobody else really has a universal hashtag that the majority of the fan base follows that's primarily negative towards their own team.  It would be one thing if it was just a few random fans being negative on it, that's expected, but well known media people such as Jeff Goodman and Zach B use it, so a lot of recruits and recruits parents that want to see St. John's news on twitter run into a lot of that crap.

I would say probably 90% of the stuff under that hashtag is either immature trolling or just negativity.  Paultz is like one of the few people I see that uses it correctly to showcase potential recruits and use it for positive news and updates. One of the more popular guys that uses it Frankingeneral I had to block the guy because all he does is use that hashtag all day long encouraging people to not go to games and pressure the AD to fire CMA.  He was using it telling people to bet against Johnnies in certain games, and Julian actually called him out on it, you don't really see that type of interaction between players and fans everyday.

Using Arkansas as an example, there's like 10 different hashtags you can follow , the one's that are the most popular are like #WPS #Neveryield #OneRazorback and they are used for all the programs just just basketball and it's primarily positive minus a few trolls that nobody really pays attention to.   If I was St.John's administration I'd really try to come up with another hashtag to follow and market the heck out of it, social media presence and perception is really important to kids these days. Let the trolls have #sjubb, because it's just toxic.

good post. I wonder if that’s the same guy I blocked on FaceBook because he said he would encourage Posh and Wheeler not to return. That’s not a real fan.
