The Transfer Portal (in general)

Personal rant. The main reason I preferred college hoops over the NBA was the pride for playing for the name/institution on the jersey. I am extremely saddened that theory is now in the toilet.
yes exactly and watching kids grow and get better over their time here and them being true Johnnies to me.

There might be 100s of kids that do not find a new home or might need to settle on a school and end up not being happy. I just hope kids don’t lose the opportunity of getting a degree.

I'm cynical to say this but I would guess that getting a degree is much less important than improving your chances of making money playing basketball.   I'd also imagine that some kids will figure they can get a degree somewhere along the line, and making money playing will take precedence over a degree at this point.    Let's be honest, if you attend 3 or 4 schools, it's not like your degree is going to be accounting, and you lose a lot of continuity even if a school accepts most or all of your credits.    It just seems that today, the notion of playing somewhere professionally has taken on a lot more importance to sub-NBA talent.

Georgia sophomore Toumani Camara has entered the transfer portal, a source told @Stockrisers. The 6-foot-8 forward from Belgium averaged 12.8 points and 7.7 boards per[/left]
game for the Bulldogs

Nice numbers. Another big who takes a few too many 3s for that % tho.

Kid from Brussels might find playing near the Big Apple attractive. We could use another long, athletic wing.

L J S A - it's not this board so much, it's mostly Twitter (which is where the recruits are). It's not just fans but also Fanta drew attention to "nobody in college basketball has experienced more of a roster shift than St. John's", "2 rotation players left right now", "never a dull moment in Queens". He did later follow up with optimism that the staff will bring in quality talent, but I still saw the Tweets as a bad look for us from a guy who is a big Big East supporter and rarely has anything bad to say.

I also disagree with the narrative of everyone having our problem. Yes, everyone does to an extent, but clearly we have it worse than pretty much everyone. Simple math, there are 350 D1 teams and close to 1200 transfers. That is 3.4 transfers per school on average. We're at 8.

As fans ot the program we become attached to players and enjoy watching them develop and thrive in their four years at SJU. However we have no skin in the game. Mike Anderson and staff are well aware that if SJU falls back to the bottom of the league next season the posters who are going to terribly miss Earlington, Williams and to a lesser extent the others who  are leaving will be calling for his firing.
Mikes family is probably just getting settled in the area and want no part of moving to another job if at his age he could get one and his staff are hoping to ride SJUs success to better jobs.
I don’t know if he encouraged the transfers but if he feels he can improve the roster we should realize Anderson and staff are just not rooting for SJU but have a lot more at stake.

tweet from D’Lo!  Nuff said... get me more killers like this!  I want kids that want to be here...

“Wouldn’t have changed it for anything simple enough ? I love @StJohnsBBall @StJohnsU place that welcomed me and allowed me to showcase my talents but to answer naw I wouldn’t have transferred I am to solid!! @SteveLavin64”

Well that is a rarity, a guy voluntarily leaving a school, playing elsewhere and the returning to his original school to finish out his career.

No so rare this year, apparently. I think this is at least the fourth instance of grass isn't always greener/You can't go home again.

The math on this is crazy- There are 300+ Division I schools & 1,200+ players have entered their names into the Transfer Portal.

So each team is losing an avg. of 4 players & you know there will be players That NO One will want on their team. OUCH !

Will be interesting to find out if a player who enters the Transfer Portal (Especially Underclassmen) and is NOT picked up by any Div. I school will have ANY RIGHTS to return to his original school . What happens to their Extra Year(s)/media/kunena/emoticons/ermm.png

When a player enters the transfer portal, his current school has the right to rescind his scholarship. If, after the player does his due diligence and decides he wants to return to his original school, that school can opt to take him back on scholarship or can decide that they are not interested in bringing him back. So, it is possible that some D-1 players that enter the portal will not wind up with a D-1 scholarship when the game of musical chairs ends.

A player can't have it both ways. If you want to become a free agent, it's only fair that there be a risk to get a reward. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I don’t recall his name but a kid that left Stony Brook is headed back there next year.

Here's another rarity - Elijah Olaniyi started his career at Stony Brook, transferred to Miami and is going back to Stony Brook for next season as a grad transfer

Maryland has added Georgetown transfer big man Qudus Wahab, per source.

Oh this is going to kill the Hoya Saxa nation. Live down here, rivalry intense as can be. Especially on GT side, who have this superiority complex, that is hard to fathom. Going to enjoy this!
