The Hated ACC's Attempt to Invade NYC

This is from 2013. A lot has happened since then, and a lot will happen before the BE contract with MSG expires in 2025 (is that the year?) As a previous poster said, the ACC's marquis coaches will be gone. Bilas knows his stuff, but he's certainly a homer for the ACC and ESPN...both evil empires.

Hey Monte - Not sure if you caught it, but article is four years old.

I did not. It just appeared on my feed so I shared. Thanks for heads up.

OMG stop the whining. The ACC is playing in Brooklyn move the "F" on already. Its great basketball take the opportunity to appreciate it and shut up. St Johns is still NYC's team and they will be playing in the Garden. Not that dump in Brooklyn. Use your energy to support the Johnnies.

The ACC helped destroy the old BE, we can hate them for that.

There were a lot more players from the NYC environs in the ACC, including the "beast from Flatbush" Billy Cunningham. NJ too--- a la Bobby Hurley and Jason Williams. Having their tourney in NYC helps them recruit against us. Let us whine about it.

This one I don't get at all, starting next year, the Big Ten will end its season early so they can play their Tourny in the Garden the week before the BET, that I don't get. Apparently the media exposure is worth it. The Big Ten has no connection to NYC or the Garden, other than it being the media capital of the US..

Good article from the NYT.

It's not invading Brooklyn that most have a problem with, it's taking over MSG in the near future.

Redzone If you feel that way then why even bother to comment?

I believe this is their first step in trying to take MSG from us. This conf raided the old BE, is notoriously anti Catholic, and now wants our HOME Basketball Area!

Remember evil only triumphs when good men do nothing. The ACC is evil, and I won't do nothing.

All of the ACC mascots were in Grand Central this morning, including the Irish leprechaun, and I have to admit it was pretty cool and funny at the same time. Nice touch.

If everyone is so worried about the ACC taking MSG from us, then they should do everything they can to put their fannies in the seats this week to fill the place up. Ultimately, it will be 14,000 instead of 19,000 next to the A in the boxscore that will decide how real this threat is.

Completely understandable on their part. NYC is the media capital of the world, many ACC teams have huge alumni bases in NYC metro, and the area is still a recruiting hotbed so MSG is an attractive venue to sell to recruits. When you get down to it, while SJU still draws heavily from the NYC area for students, the players come from everywhere. It's essentially a turf battle where the ACC hopes the best product wins. I would bet however, that no matter where the ACC plays its game, outside of their alumni base they will not attract a large fan base, and a great SJU team will always rule NYC over anyone else even remotely close to the city

That's one advantage of UCONN in th BE . They are a NY area team and bring a lot to fans to the garden.

They are lucky it was you and not me who saw them. I would have started boo'ing and screaming "Go back to the South!" and "Keep the Hillbillys out of NYC"

But they bring their own fans. They don't create fans. We've seen when we have very good teams, the whole city wakes up and becomes an SJU fan. Getting shouted down at the Garden says a lot more about our teams than their fan base.

so what exactly was wrong with my comment "07"? because you don't like it I cant post :p too bad.. The ACC is playing in Brooklyn, the ACC is relevant and has a following in NYC, if it doesn't work out in Brooklyn maybe they will not play there again, if it works out they just may try for the Garden and if they get it it's the Gardens fault not the ACC and not mine. Face it StJ and the Big East can not compete financially with the bigger conferences with FB they may be the blind squirrel that finds an acorn from time to time but it will not be often.

:lst: If I had it my way we'd have "Sherman, Sheridan, & Grant" show them some northern hospitality like the real General Sherman did. We could also re-brand the BET slogan to "March to the C - the Big East Tournament at MSG" as a nod to Sherman's March to the Sea, to spite the ACC trying to invade NYC.

Wow. You have serious issues 07. I heard recently the war is over.

They may not be able to compete with the bigger conferences financially, but they sure as hell kicked the ACC's ass in hoops this season. The Big East went 8-3 against the ACC, I'll take that every year. ;)

leave redmen07 alone. Its nice to have a funny post especially when it comes to the consensus enemy to the existence and survival of the big east

Would be truly interesting (altho the BE powers that be would never go for it) to have a BE regular season game at the Greensboro Coliseum or some other public arena in ACC territory. Kinda just "firing for effect" thing. I know....blue sky.
