Not so at all. The media is reporting what states and countries are doing to battle this virus. I want to know what's happening, as depressing as it may sound. Reporting what is happening is not fear mongering. What would you want, no news at all?
I don't want this to devolve, but let's not be so obtuse not to all realize that there is a national election for president in less than 8 months, and every single event that can be politicized will be in an attempt to sway the electorate in one direction or another. Depending on your political orientation, you will either think the White house is twisting what is really happening, or the other side is trying to discredit the White house's attempt to deal with this in the public interest. I swear that we are getting very close to a house divided not being able to stand and while that happens, politicians hungry for power will gladly let that happen in order to seize or hold power.

I don't disagree Beast. But reporting what is happening, and a lot is happening now, is the right thing to do. I do not want to live in a Pollyanna world where all we get is good news or no news at all. I don't see this news reporting as being politicized, although politicians on both the right and the left will try to do so. I'm not a politician.

The Joe Biden news conference was a disgrace.

Biden pointed fingers at Trump and accused him of "xenophobia" because he called COVID-19 a "foreign virus".
He also said the Trump administration was guilty of several "misjudgments" since the start of the outbreak, particularly the president's new travel bans.
He then suggested that Trump's travel restrictions were based on "favoritism."
The Obama White House had to publicly apologize for and clean up after Biden when his irresponsible remarks caused panic during the swine flu outbreak in 2009. Just weeks ago, he was openly critical of President Trump’s early move to restrict travel from China to the United States in response to the coronavirus – a decision which medical experts agree helped impede the spread of the virus to this country. Yesterday his campaign actually raised the vile conspiracy theory that the President purposely allowed the coronavirus to spread.

To quote Rod Serling:
It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.
We have entered the TWIGHLIGHT ZONE.

But you're OK with Trump calling this a "Democrat inspired hoax?" Or Trump bringing on his son-in-law, who knows nothing about infectious diseases, to help control the spread? Or Trump cutting funding from the CDC months ago? Or Trump focusing on the economy, instead of stopping COVID-19, which would help the economy recover? Give me a freaking break!

Can we stop this here. I deliberately wrote my response carefully so this wouldn't spiral out of control.

Someday soon, we need a heroic figure to rise out of the mud, reject party affiliation, and unite the good people of this country for a common good. It is wishful thinking for certain.

Arguing here or anywhere else about partisan politics serves zero purpose and only inflames.

Why do you always need to bring this back to party politics? Aren't you capable of having a conversation about media coverage without going there? and "Obtuse" is thinking that this POTUS is capable of handling this. He not.

Not only did completely get rid office in the white house that had been set up to prepare for pandemics, but he turned down testing kits from the WHO two months ago, in favor of developing kits on our own (that didn't work).
The WHO kits that would have enabled us to locate and isolate the areas where this first broke out and put us on a trajectory that would be more like S. Korea rather than Italy. Add to that that he's also continuously contradicted the advice and messaging of his own CDC and top health officials. For christsake, he went on national TV last night and blamed China and Europe for our having to deal with this Pandemic, bragged how low our affected numbers and deaths are when everybody knows they are are low because we haven't done any damn testing, AND he promised that the insurance industry was going to waive co-pays for testing and treatment, which was news to them since they only agreed to do that for testing. Biggest moment of his presidency and the white house had to issue what...3 separate statements today "clarifying" where he "misspoke" in an 11 minute speech he was reading from a teleprompter??

Sorry, but he and the rest of the Insane Clown Posse that is today's GOP, need to get out of the way and let the adults try to deal with this.

Keep your head in the sand. Believe, or don't believe what is unfolding right before your eyes, it doesn't matter any longer. Were past the point where you can be of any help, and the damage you've all caused is going to be on a scale that your having an sudden epiphany isn't going to make a measurable difference. This POUTS is a disaster.

ANYONE who thinks this guy is capable of handling this is delusional, and a danger to everyone else.

Thank the good lord that there is an election in 8 months. America will finally have a chance to install competent leadership again. And before you go off and claim I'm a liberal/socialist/Commie whatever, I'm not... I'm not even a democrat. And before you go on defending this moron, or blame the "fake" media aka everything not owned by Murdoch or the Sinclair family...for people who wants to defend this moron, just ask yourself where you think we'd be if Mitt Romney or John Kasich were POTUS?

This is a national emergency and you have a brain dead toddler controlling the levers of power in this country and party of psychopaths lined up behind him cowering in fear.

Sure there's an election coming up and his job performance is going to be used against him. It should be. He's the POTUS, not my UPS delivery guy.

rant complete...feel free to delete it if you want to Knight.

Here's an idea....The government should mandate a 4 day stay at home holiday. Exemptions of course for healthcare workers, ems, law enforcement etc. The idea would be everyone stays at home (social distancing) and does not transmit the disease. This would not be the typical American holiday where we gather with friends, hang out, golf work out at the gym, go shopping, go to the movies restaurants etc. I suppose staying in your yard would be OK.

Any chance it would work????

Good idea, but the 'holiday' should match the incubation timeframe of the virus, which initially was estimated to be 14 days but I think the median period has been revised to about 5 days.

If we were going to do that, I don’t think 4 days is going to accomplish much. I think it would have to be longer than that. The incubation period for the disease is reportedly 14 days!

Yours is a completely partisan rant. Read the NY times, yes THE NEW YORK TIMES article about our preparedness to deal with this. We are in much better shape than many countries, but if the worst of it hits here the major thing we are missing according to the article is that we only have 62,000 ventilators, with 10,000 in national storage, when a 2005 report indicated that for a severe flue like virus we would need 250,000.

You point to the idiot in the white house doing nothing, and in 2005 that idiot had a different name than the one you castigate.

Notice I carefully did not make my rant partisan, but you obviously post that way. So, ya, no one really cares to hear that crap. You've posted repeatedly about this virus, and yes, every news story about the has a partisan politcian taking swipes at the other party. The problem with people like you is you cannot contain your rage and emotions and engage in civil discourse. It's endemic in this country, and I hate not being able to discuss serious serious subjects with otherwise intelligent people. Such is life.

The day you are longing for is already here. And that unifier you are hoping for is named Joe Biden. He ain't perfect, not by a long shot. He's flawed just like all the rest of us, but he is a centrist, and he genuinely cares about ALL Americans, not just the 45% that got him elected, or the members of his golf club. He's the democrats version of John McCain. If a Republican can't support that type of democrat over the morally bankrupt, incompetent disaster that is DJ Trump, then they aren't honest partners in this great democratic experiment that is America. They are members of a cult.

Yes the guy who doesn't know his wife from his sister because he has been losing his marbles for about a decade now. The guy in his late 70's who challenged a man who could kick his ass to a fight. Dems want Biden to choose Hillary for VP so if he wins the election they can declare him non compos mentis in 6 months and Hillary can become President.

That's a new one. Might be time to swap out the tinfoil hat, seems to be rusting.

How about we make a bet? If that happens, I'll vote GOP on the whole ticket. I've done it before, and as bad as this ass hat is as a POTUS, I'm a man of my word so I'll do it again. But when this paranoid delusion doesn't come to fruition, you have to vote for every Dem on the ticket where you live.

Deal?
Here's an idea....The government should mandate a 4 day stay at home holiday. Exemptions of course for healthcare workers, ems, law enforcement etc. The idea would be everyone stays at home (social distancing) and does not transmit the disease. This would not be the typical American holiday where we gather with friends, hang out, golf work out at the gym, go shopping, go to the movies restaurants etc. I suppose staying in your yard would be OK.

Any chance it would work????
It better work, because that's what's coming next week. Only it's going to be for 2-3 weeks instead of 4 days. Needs to be that long since you can be transmitting the virus for 2 weeks before showing symptoms.

Nickelback asked for this person 20 years ago w/ that song from the spiderman movie. Those guys were out ahead of this.
