The beginning of the end for Lavin?

Your being too nice Tommy

Nonsensical Post

You do wonder, if this is going to be the first step in a long road for Steve Lavin's eventual resignation here.

We're obviously a few years (hopefully many) away from any sort of coaching change here, but you do wonder if the word gets out now, that Lavin brings in kids with highly questionable academics, and if the clearinghouse will look at us a lot more closely in the future (because anyone who thinks the clearinghouse plays fair is full of themselves)... Also, if we don't turn it around, does Lavin get frustrated, and go back to broadcasting?

These are all probably questions for another day, but I'd be lying to you if I said that they weren't crossing my mind right now.

Moose - u have a LOT of bad karma going on. I can't even change it. Are you locked in to a life of epic proportioned bad karma? You're doomed for the after-life! :silly:

You can credit SJUFan2 for my Karma rating. He gets bored very easily and needs to find ways to pass the time.

Are you for real?

Lavin takes commitments a YEAR in advance. Commits to kids, and they commit to him/us, because everyone believes they will be eligible when the time comes.

Sometimes they don't make it. That's life in the big leagues of BIG TIME college basketball. Sometimes your estimations on a kid and his ability to achieve eligibility don't pan out. How is that a reflection on Lavin, unless of course he tried something unethical or illegal to get him past the NCAA clearing house? I don't imagine you are actually worried about that are you?

No, what actually worries me is that Lavin DIDN'T play dirty, WRT the NCAA clearinghouse.

If you look at us and UCONN right now, you'd think we'd be the team that was just slapped with NCAA probation. Yet, UCONN just circumvented the rules (legally, to be fair) to land a stud player, and their team is all the better for it. I hate Calhoun with a passion, but that's exactly the type of guy I'd want leading my program. Even if they took away victories later, I wouldn't like that, but you can't take away the memories of what was.

I think Lavin wants to play dirty, but I have a sneaky feeling that Harrington is not letting him. Admittadly, I have no evidence on this. I just hope it doesn't become a pattern of us swinging for the fences, and always striking out.

BTW, nobody wants to see Lavin and company succeed more then I do. Those of you who know me/see me at the games can attest to that. Just like nobody wanted to see Norm and company succeed more then I did. Same with Jarvis, Fran, et al.

Are you serious?
Wow, some of these posts are scary.

Now, you're just picking and choosing, TIS.

I said I had no evidence to back up my claim about playing dirty. I've just always been skeptical of Harrington's acceptance of this from day 1, that's all.

And yes, I certianly have rooted for this team to do well, and win in the past, as I will continue to.

I was going to say "don't take this the wrong way" but there is no "wrong way" to take what I'm about to say...

You are either a troll who roots for some other team, or you are the single dumbest poster in the history of this program. As a decade long moderator of this site I can assure you that if its the latter that is no small accomplishment.

Right now I'm on the fence as to which it might be.

Keep in mind that I have no evidence to back up my claim about your stupidity or faux-allegience. I've just always been skeptical of your allegiance to this program from post 1, that's all. :pinch:

I too am on the fence SJUFAN2 as this is clearly the dumbest post I have ever read in my 10 plus years of posting on this site and others.

Although I must say it is the height of hilarity to draw criticism over what posts are deserving of deletion on this site from the moderator of a site that allows posters like realfan to spew their nonsensical crap/vitriol on a daily basis.

Actually they've done such a fine job that besides the mods only Realfan posts there now.

We might need realfan on here soon.

I, for lack of a better term, sort of "played his role" yesterday on this thread, and let me tell you, it's not fun, not fun at all (no pun intended there, fun). I'm also not very good at it, to say the least

That's not to say that I was just spewing something to cause controversy, but much of my demeanor (and some of what I said) was done out of frustration.

I guess, with name God's Gift, spirituality sort of comes with the territory.

This is exactly what happened to the the SF Giants in the early 60s. Before that the club's spiritual leader was Jose Pagan, under whose influence they worshipped rocks and nymphs. But as soon as Jesus Alou joined the team good things started to happen.

Now this is deep, real deep. Would Jesus try and save pagans?

This was almost inevitable, it's no secret many of the top players have trouble meeting academic standards as freshmen. When you bring in 9 highly touted freshmen you cant expect all to be ready. I will admit 3 is a high number but had these 9 scholarships been spread over 3 years it wouldn't be perceived as damaging as it has been to our reputation.

......and over 3 years would you have been happy if not ONE player was ranked in the top 150 in high school? Roberts had great success with that quality of player didn't he??? Our rep is fine! I would not say the same for the NCAA double standards when it comes to granting football players with 8th grade reading levels clearance to play at LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, etc.! If one or two of the players get cleared by December will you be happy? As far as our reputation the three players had offers from schools in the Big 10, Big East, PAC 10, etc. It was SJ they chose and we should reserve judgment until the appeal process and/or re-taking of a course or two is completed.

F INAL WORD ON STEVE:LET'S HOPE HE IS AROUND FOR A LOOOOONG TIME, HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED MORE THAN NORM HAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET THE SEASON BEGIN!!! IT CAN'T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH-ENOUGH OF THE POSTING,LET'S PLAY BALL.

2nd warning:

Please refrain from posting in all caps. Its the internet equivalent of shouting at someone, and its rude.

Future posts of this nature will be deleted.

Actually that's the third - I made the same request a couple of weeks ago. I can only conclude that his caps lock key is stuck.
