Are you for real?
Lavin takes commitments a YEAR in advance. Commits to kids, and they commit to him/us, because everyone believes they will be eligible when the time comes.
Sometimes they don't make it. That's life in the big leagues of BIG TIME college basketball. Sometimes your estimations on a kid and his ability to achieve eligibility don't pan out. How is that a reflection on Lavin, unless of course he tried something unethical or illegal to get him past the NCAA clearing house? I don't imagine you are actually worried about that are you?
No, what actually worries me is that Lavin DIDN'T play dirty, WRT the NCAA clearinghouse.
If you look at us and UCONN right now, you'd think we'd be the team that was just slapped with NCAA probation. Yet, UCONN just circumvented the rules (legally, to be fair) to land a stud player, and their team is all the better for it. I hate Calhoun with a passion, but that's exactly the type of guy I'd want leading my program. Even if they took away victories later, I wouldn't like that, but you can't take away the memories of what was.
I think Lavin wants to play dirty, but I have a sneaky feeling that Harrington is not letting him. Admittadly, I have no evidence on this. I just hope it doesn't become a pattern of us swinging for the fences, and always striking out.
BTW, nobody wants to see Lavin and company succeed more then I do. Those of you who know me/see me at the games can attest to that. Just like nobody wanted to see Norm and company succeed more then I did. Same with Jarvis, Fran, et al.
