The Airing of the Grievances

Didn’t follow Bulls enough to have an intelligent opinion on whether he ruined Derek’s career but doubt Derek would have been so enthusiastic about playing for him with Knicks if he thought that was the case.
I do watch the Knicks and believe he keeps starters in way too long and Randle injury was a result of that.
Do you think losing Randle has hurt the Knicks in the playoffs? I know the team was playing well before he got injured and he seemed to be adapting to a team roll but has he been typically strong in the playoffs? Curious to hear yours and others perspectives on this. I know we likely have him for another couple of years.

At this point you would absolutely be glad to have him. But I truthfully think the best version of this group of players is having everyone else healthy + no Randle. You don’t have this Josh Hart with Randle. Randles raw numbers are phenomenal, I just think there’s more to it than that and in particular this group and their chemistry.

I’m not convinced you have this Brunson with a healthy Randle either.

I ultimately think we need another lengthy defender guy that can score to fit Brunson better, and Randle is the crucial piece to acquire him.

I believe that they are better without him. Him and Barrett clogged the lane and over dribbled. Plus they both were overly lefty dominant. Randle leaving allowed for better floor spacing and allowed Brunson to shoot and playmake. I would be shocked if Randle was on the Knicks next year. The bigger issue is whether to extend OG who fits perfectly but is often injured.

This version probably not. But he was pretty incredible already with Randle before. And I wouldn’t be surprise if we never see this version of Brunson again at all to be hones simply because he’s just been that good.

Agree on the lengthy defender and the best option is already playing in New York and has won a championship with those 3 before.

I’m calling the Sports Pope: hey Mike how about a trade? Bridges for Randle and 2 ones and one 2?
Then the Nets trade that package plus Cam Thomas to the Cavs for Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen?. I’ll hang up and listen.
Sorry Mods. But let’s just say my grievance is against our own Big Mike.

While I am not the biggest Randall fan, the Knicks had the best record in the NBA after the OG trade and a healthy roster. Thibs built chemistry post trade.

With a healthy Randall, the Knicks would not have needed Brunson to be a magician and Hart to be an ironman rebounding machine.

Can’t have it both ways and say the players are injured because of logging over 40 minutes, but think the Knicks are better without Randall this year. Even though Randall is hardly the perfect player.

As an aside, going forward I would look to move Randall this off-season to improve the roster (they also have a decent amount of draft picks to sweeten any deal). The Knicks are as close to being a consistent championship contender since Riley.

Anthony Davis is on the top of my wish list but Bridges would obviously be great. Jaren Jackson Jr has plenty of Knicks connections but I don't know if he's available.

While on one hand, I definitely don't think it would even be sustainable for Brunson to be this high of a usage guy long-term. I do think we want guys who won't hold onto the ball for too long (Randle's biggest issue offensively), have a more reliable jumper, and, as said earlier, be a bonafide plus defender.

I completely agree with this entire post. Best part about this is we shouldn't have any urgency to trade him. If no good deal comes along, we can afford to be patient.

Jon Scheyer had nothing to do with Lively getting drafted. He was a pro prospect since he hit puberty. Same goes for Whitehead. Scheyer didn't get those kids developed and drafted, they came in to Duke with their NBA Draft Day suits on.
Hearing the name Lively reminds me of the Actress , Blake Lively , who in my mind is as hot as they come .

He part and dialogue in the movie “ The Town with Ben Afflleck and Jon Hamm is priceless .

Thing about Randle is he would be massive this late in a playoff run, because he’s someone who can at least create his own shot independent of brunson.

The question is whether Randle could do that at a consistently high level in a playoff setting, cause we haven’t really seen that yet.

I do hope we see Randle in the playoffs next season to see him get another chance to prove himself, cause think he was banged up last playoff run

This Knicks team, without Randle, is much more entertaining to watch. They are now playing team basketball like the old Knicks teams used to do. When Randle played, the ball got stuck almost every time he touched it. The team has much better flow and chemistry with OG playing the 4 than when Randle did.

But it doesn’t change the fact the Knicks had the best record after the OG trade in large part to Randle buying in to the team concept.

The Knicks were playing great team ball and OG got a big assist in the chemistry department because he was the perfect player for this team. He spaced the floor and allowed Brunson and Randle freedom, unlike Barrett who clogged the paint.

It would have carried over into the playoffs. If Randle was playing, I strongly believe we are already discussing a Boston series, and not a game seven against Indiana.

The Knicks have to be very careful with any potential trade/FA acquisition. The chemistry of this team is what has carried it, and adding a guy who is an alpha somewhere else, or a ball dominant guy could be a very bad fit with this group of players. Randle, while ball hoggish at times, is a known commodity in this system, and wouldn't be easy to replace. Anunoby, while physically fragile, proved to be a real complementary option who didn't demand the ball, but contributed on the defensive end and on the boards while providing a solid third or fourth option as a scorer.

Mikal Bridges would likely be a fit, as he already has played with the Villanova core. But, if you add him, I don't see Anunoby returning. For now, I would look to retain Anunoby and Hartenstein, and look to add a guy like Ryan Dunn to backstop him as a defensive option in the draft. If they could pull Justin Edwards with their second first, it gives them a high upside wing to develop. Roll with the rest.

Yes - he had a bad ankle in last year's playoff.

Airing my grievances:
1. My hockey season over. Check.
2. My basketball season over. Check.
3. My baseball season over. Check.

Yeesh. The Giants will follow and pile on to this mess.

Memo to Pitino and staff: While I am not an egomaniac and understand my sports feelings are not even a pimple in your universe, I will nonetheless still ask that you please, please, please make the NCAA Tournament and get through to the second weekend.

I am old and married. I don’t expect or even need my excitement level to be lengthy to reach fulfillment. Thanks in advance.
